A HAVERFORDWEST mother of five is on a mission to improve facilities for toddlers at Trafalgar Road Park.

Nerys Butland lives with her partner and children - who are aged between 12 and four months - in Hawthorn Rise, just around the corner from the park.

But due to a lack of play equipment for small children, the family usually travel to another play space in the county town.

“We have lived here almost a year now and to be honest, we have hardly used the park as it just doesn't have that many things in for small children and there has always been an issue with the dog mess,” said Nerys. “I realised that it's ridiculous to travel when there's a huge open space right by us and all it needs is the right equipment.”

Nerys contacted Pembrokeshire County Council and is awaiting a quote for a fenced area with toddler play equipment, so she can set a fundraising target to aim for. The project has a Facebook page and Nerys is busy with plans to support her goal.

“I’m collecting raffle prizes from local businesses, I’ve asked the council about using the park for a fun day, and I have asked at The Hive centre about using their facilities for weekly events,” she said. “I’m collecting goods to sell at a local car boot sale, and I’m planning to hold a meeting to see if anyone is interested in getting involved.”
