THE wheels have been set in motion on a new Pembrokeshire transport project.

The Green Dragon Scooter scheme launched last month, with the aim of helping people living in rural communities access work.

Four scooters have been purchased, with the help of SWWITCH (South West Wales Integrated Transport Consortium) which includes Pembrokeshire County Council and the Clydau Connections Project, which is a Welsh Government Deep Rural Funding project.

The first scooter has been loaned out to a young man called Toby from Clynderwen, who was in danger of losing his job locally. He is now able to commute further afield after passing his Compulsory Basic Training and receiving his safety clothing.

Emma Lewis, Green Dragon Bus Operations Co-ordinator, said: “This marks the start of an extension of community transport in the region to people and for needs we just haven’t been able to reach effectively in the past – people unable to access sustainable employment through lack of access to transport.”

There are still scooters available and Green Dragon Bus welcomes applications from others who may benefit from the scheme, as long as they are aged 17 or over.
