CREATIVITY was unleashed in Moylegrove over the August bank holiday weekend.

This time last year the local craft group came up with the idea to put on a scarecrow trail to raise funds for the village.

Local residents were more than up to the challenge, producing no less than 60 stuffed designs. Around half were created by the children of Ysgol Llandudoch, whose scarecrows ranged from seven inches to seven feet.

Villagers and visitors were given a trail map and using clues had to find the scarecrows. The fun was followed by a village barbecue organised by Cymdeithas, with the crowds entertained by local duo 'Memphis Belle.’

Organisers said: “The quantity, quality and variety of the scarecrows were beyond our wildest dreams. There were teeny tiny cute ones, great big scary ones, square ones, round ones, every size and shape ones. Some came in groups with friends and family, some brought their pets. All were absolutely amazing, and a real credit to the community.

“As a result of 'Moylegrove's Big Scarecrow Event', the craft club has been able to present Cymdeithas Trewyddel with a donation of £1,000.

“The trail and the scarecrows were a huge success and it was wonderful to hear visitors praise our village and community. One man said he loved it so much he'd decided to move here!"

The judges Melrose and Mal Thomas awarded the Best Village Scarecrow prize to Jill for her 'what a load of rubbish scarecrow' and the trail competition was won by Louise Parnell.

The craft group would like to thank all of the event’s supporters and the whole community for getting involved.

A DVD has been put together of the whole event including Saturday's barbecue and dance. Copies cost £5 and will be available at the next event held in the village hall.
