STAFF and pupils from Pembroke School Autism Centre raised more than £170 for Sport Relief.

They were among about 100 people who took part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile at Stackpole on Sunday, March 23.

Pembroke Leisure Centre staff were on hand for a warm up session before the walkers, joggers and runners set off on their one, three or six mile challenges.

Pembroke School Autism Centre head Claire Bullock said: “The pupils did brilliantly – Edward Davies completed his 3 miles with a sprint finish, Daniel Lock, Luke Mordecai and Morgan James did their mile and all finished smiling.

“Thanks to the brilliant staff who gave up their time to be there and ran with the pupils.”

The centre set up a running club about two months ago to help pupils with anxiety, as well as to promote health and fitness.

Staff and pupils have been building up their stamina by running around the school site and some pupils have managed to increase their distance steadily to more than three miles.

“This has taken a lot of commitment and getting out running in all weathers,” Mrs Bullock added.

“It has been great for staff too as several of us are involved and so we are all getting fitter.”

Stackpole Estate commercial and business development officer Mike May added: “It was great, there was a lovely atmosphere.

“We were very pleased with the turnout and I think Sport Relief did benefit considerably.”
