PENNAR Community School played host to the Welsh children’s champion on Monday (May 12).

Keith Towler, the Children’s Commissioner for Wales, took a tour of the school, meeting pupils and teachers.

The visit was organised by the school’s super ambassadors - pupils Melissa Phillips and Connor Richards.

Mr Towler was also given a performance by the school choir, who recently sang for the Queen, and met members of the school council, eco committee, Buzz club and Bike it Crew.

The visit finished with a question and answer session with pupils from years’ five and six.

“Meeting children and young people across Wales is not only one of the most enjoyable aspects of my role, it is also one of the most important,” said Mr Towler.

“I have enjoyed visiting Pennar Community School. It was a fantastic opportunity for me to hear from children about their daily experiences and the issues that affect them most.”

Cabinet member for education and safeguarding Councillor Sue Perkins said she was delighted to see Mr Towler visiting Pembrokeshire again and listening to the voices of its young people.

Melissa and Connor added: “It was fabulous to have Keith Towler at our school today, we have really enjoyed it”.
