SOUTH Pembrokeshire Hospital has taken delivery of its first specialist comfort bed thanks to a fantastic £1,400 fundraiser.

The Sunderland Ward received the bed, which aids mobility and rehabilitation, following a Bhangra-inspired fundraising night at The Cleddau Bridge Hotel, Pembroke Dock.

The event was organised by Dr Gurjinder Bhari of the Argyle Medical Group. It was attended by 140 guests who helped raise the remaining £1,400 needed to purchase a specialist bed for the hospital’s rehabilitation and social care ward.

It is hoped the new bed will be the first of many for the ward, which helps patients with significant mobility issues arising from strokes, fractures and operations, as well as patients suffering with dementia.

Dr Gurjinder Bhari said: “It is hoped that through fundraising events such as our Bhangra Night at The Cleddau Bridge Hotel we can eventually raise sufficient funds to purchase many more beds like this for the ward.

“It is our aim to replace the 39 remaining beds with these specialist electric versions that will help to prevent falls, aid patient mobility and independence, as well as provide much needed comfort to those most in need.

“I must thank all of the guests who attended and joined in the great celebrations, and hotel management and staff who worked tirelessly to help raise as much money as possible on the night.

“The event was the first of its kind in the area but we are already looking forward to the next event at the hotel on June 13 2015 with a view to raising as much money as possible for a very deserving local cause."
