A PENNAR Army driver with 1 Armoured Medical Regiment has been taking a break from his normal Army duties to take part in a parade as the Regiment moved into their new barracks in Paderborn, Germany.

More than 100 soldiers from the regiment were on parade as they were welcomed to Dempsey Barracks in front of an audience that included families, friends and dignitaries from the local area.

Private Daniel Hunt, 22, said that he was enjoying settling into their new barracks adding: “Paderborn is a great place to be based with lots of things to do in the city and the surrounding area, I am really enjoying being here the people are friendly and the parade was a nice way to announce our formal arrival.”

Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Michael Connolly said: “The arrival of the Regiment in Dempsey Barracks represents the start of a new chapter in the history of the Unit and today’s parade marks this occasion. 1 Armoured Medical Regiment have the honor of being the final Medical Unit to serve within British Forces Germany.”

Daniel, educated at Pembroke school, joined the Army in 2012, and, as well as Germany, he has also served in Kenya where he was responsible for driving medics around to provide medical care to the local population, something he found very rewarding, and in Afghanistan where as part of the Quick Reaction Force he drove an Armoured Mastiff supporting the Afghan National Security Forces and helping to deal with any emergencies.

He is also keen on adventurous training having undertaking mountain biking, canoeing, climbing and kayaking, ironically in Castlemartin, close to his home town, activities all designed to instill character development in challenging controlled environments.
