“GOOD night, good night. Parting is such sweet sorrow, that I shall say good night till it be morrow,” was just one of the famous lines from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet that was learned and delivered by Class 6 pupils from Pembroke’s Golden Grove School recently.

Under the direction of Miss Williams and Mrs Preece, the pupils had been working hard on delivering the play.

After weeks of practice the pupils recently went to the Torch Theatre in Milford Haven to perform their take on the Bard’s classic piece of star-crossed lovers.

The pupils were among many others from the county who were taking part in the Shakespeare Schools Festival, which aims to give pupils the skills and support to deliver the works of the famous Bard.

Recently, the pupils performed an encore performance in school for the benefit of parents who had been unable to go to The Torch.

One of the audience summed up the event saying: "It is a great credit to the children who learned the lines and deliver them in the way Shakespeare intended. The acting was top class. Well done."

Head teacher Andrew Williams said: "The pupils excelled themselves, we are most grateful to the staff and parents for all the support.”

In other school news, pupils have embarked on an exciting new project.

Working with staff at Glan Y Mor Farm, the home of Greenlinks CIC, the pupils are rebuilding three go karts to a condition which will allow them to be driven.

The work started with a full safety briefing in the workshop and then building a rolling chassis. All three karts were built to a ‘four wheels on’ stage.

Mr Williams said: “This is an exciting opportunity for pupils to learn new skills, I look forward to seeing the completed karts in a few months’ time.”
