THE Rotary Club of Pembroke recently presented a cheque for £1,000 to the Peony Breast Care Unit in the Prince Phillip Hospital, Llanelli.

The clinic is leading a number of exciting research programmes which means that hospitals in West Wales have access to some highly innovative diagnostic and treatment programmes.

Dr Simon Holt, consultant at the Peony Breast Care Unit, gave a fascinating talk to the club showing how genetic analysis is beginning to revolutionise cancer treatments. The Club’s donation will help support his research programme and may also help patients with special needs which are attending the clinic.

The donation was raised by the Pembroke Rotary Club at the medieval barbecue held at Manorbier Castle during the summer.

President of Pembroke Rotary club Jon Davies said: “The medieval barbecue was a tremendous event. It is nice to see that the hard work of our members, with the support of the castle, has allowed the club to support such a worthwhile cause.”

The club would like to thank Dame Emily Naper and the staff of the castle, without whose support this donation would not have been possible.
