PEMBROKE & Monkton Local History Society will be meeting on Saturday morning, January 7 at Monkton Church Hall for a New Year’s Get-together. This will be a time for reminiscing, looking back on times past with old photos and film clips – if you have any interesting local photos, please bring them along to share.

This will also be an opportunity to meet Diana Ford of the National Theatre Wales TEAM and she will be introducing the Monkton Sound Project which aims to record stories of Monkton people. The TEAM is an outreach branch of the National Theatre Wales, and offers a platform to connect with communities across the country through events and projects. The Sound Project involves getting people to tell and record their stories and recall stories of local characters, past or present, who have perhaps done something extraordinary or funny and become local legends.

Following on from this, the TEAM will be holding meetings in Monkton Swifts and offering free script and performance workshops. Having collected and recorded stories, some will be turned into scripts to be adapted into plays which will be performed. The History Society is happy to help with this exciting project and hopes for a good response at Saturday’s meeting. This will begin at 10.30 but the Hall will be open from 10am for coffee, cakes and a chat – entry is free.
