A WELL KNOWN singing star will be performing a special concert in St David’ s Cathedral on Saturday, March 15 in aid of Shalom House.

Howard Jones’ career launched in the early 80’s, and he enjoyed success on both sides of the Atlantic with hits such as 'What is Love,' 'New Song,' and 'Hide and Seek.’

Howard never stopped performing since the height of his fame. Last year he played to an audience of 10,000 in Mexico City, and gave three major concerts in Britain to packed houses.

Although he lives in Somerset, Howard has strong links with Pembrokeshire through family, and has been a regular visitor to St Davids over the years.

The fundraiser has been organised by Howard’s brother Roy Jones who lives in Solva. They decided to raise money for Shalom House as their late father John Hirwen Jones received care there during the latter stages of his cancer.

Roy said: “As a family we are very grateful to Shalom House for helping us through this very difficult time.

“The nurses made everything as dignified and compassionate as humanly possible.

“When we heard it was struggling financially to keep the 24-hour service open, we came up with the idea of holding a concert to raise money. Of course we won't be able to raise enough with this one event to get the beds back and full nursing care restored, but what we do hope to achieve is to send a message out to the people of Pembrokeshire that Shalom House needs help urgently to keep going, and return to the vision of full 24-hour end of life care envisioned by its founder.

Howard will be joined at the concert by a young singer-songwriter Elise Yuill, and Many Treasures Chorus.

Tickets are available locally at St David’s Bookshop, West Wales Arts Centre, Span Arts, Main Street Music, Ocky White Travel, Torch Theatre, as well as online at www.ticketsllers.co.uk
