STAFF at Shalom House in St Davids have been overwhelmed by the incredible fundraising efforts of its supporters in recent months.

In March, a concert held by eighties pop star Howard Jones at St David’s Cathedral raised £3,240 for the palliative care centre, which looks after people with a life limiting illness.

The following month Helen Wood and Bryan Rees got their running shoes on and completed marathons in Brighton and London, raising £635 and £700 respectively.

Nina Russell got in the saddle for a charity cycling tour of Scotland in May, raising £1,131 and Richard Davies' epic 24-hour tennis marathon at Haverfordwest Tennis Club last month raised a massive £7,433.

Hairdressers Todaro’s raised more than £1,500 as a result of its gents hairdressing fundraising event on June 6, Laura Venables is a third of the way through her three half marathon challenge, so far collecting £328 of her £1,000 goal and still busy training for the Thames Path 100km challenge are Lyn Jenkins, Cathy Morton and Claire MacNamara. This takes place over the weekend of September 13 and 14.

Shalom nurse manager Allyson Burrows said: “The team and I at Shalom are absolutely delighted with the fundraising efforts from around the county and beyond. The totals people have raised from running marathons, tennis marathons and more is spectacular.

“It couldn’t have come at a more appropriate time as we have been opening for booked respite stays and this money will allow us to do this on a more regular basis."

She added: “It is fantastic to receive such support from our community. Thank you everyone.”
