Work to start traffic calming along the main route to three Tenby schools got underway on Monday and is expected to take a fortnight.
Six speed humps are to be built along a section of Heywood Lane, in association with a 20mph zone being introduced along the same stretch of the road between Leachway and Tudor Way.
The work being carried out by Pembrokeshire County Council, which is planning to build a new English medium primary school adjacent to the current junior school site in Heywood Lane.
The authority said this week that, in order to construct the traffic calming features, it will be necessary to close Heywood Lane to through traffic.
To minimise disruption to the three schools in this area (Greenhill School, Tenby Infants and Tenby Junior) the closures will start at 9am, after pupils have been dropped off, and the road will re-open by 2.30pm, before the end of the school day.
Vehicular access for residents and visitors to the schools will be maintained with diversions in place for through traffic.
The speed limit zone in Heywood Lane was first suggested by Tenby Town Council in 2005.
