BRITISH LEGION The next meeting of the Whitland and Llanboidy branch of the Royal British Legion takes place next Wednesday, April 27th, in the Station House, Whitland at 8pm. The programme of events for the current 90th anniversary year will be discussed.

CRICKET CLUB Last week's 49 Club winner was Gerald Blain. On Friday, the club is holding a sponsored walk, to meet at the club at 2pm. Sponsor forms are avalable from club secretary Huw Davies. Pre-season friendly on Sunday at 2pm.

COUNCIL WALKABOUT County councillors Mrs. Meryl Gravell and Clive Scourfield walked around Whitland with town councillors Mrs. Diane Evans and Mrs. Vivienne Morris. It was established that there was no further progress on the Grosvenor house situation or the Dairies site. Levelling the rubble at the dairies site was discussed, together with the state of the railway station.

FLOOD PLANS The Environment Agency's flood modelling plan for Whitland was presented to the town council at its April meeting. The agency said that the flooding from the rivers is quite well-contained and that the by-pass is providing a defence against more frequent flooding.

It was suggested that a permanent pumping station should be requested.

SPEED SIGNS New 40mph sped limit signs have been installed on the Whitland to Tavernspite road, the town council has been told.

CLASSIC Motor Club On Sunday, 18 cars from the Whitland Classic Motor Club took part in a Drive It Day event from Whitland via Carmarthen, Llyn Brianne, Tregaron, Aberaeron, Eglwyswrw and Rosebush. The route was planned by committee chairman Gerald Blain. The next event is the royal wedding day run on Friday 29th April, leaving North Road car park at 2.30pm, when all members and guests are welcome. There will also be a fish and chip run to Letterston Friday May 6th at 6.30pm. All proceeds from the events will go to the club's chosen charity for 2011.
