Milford Haven

THE funeral took place on May 17 of Trevor James who died at Withybush Hospital, he was 92.

Trevor was brought up as a child with his brother’s and sisters in Pill, Milford Haven, then when the war broke out Trevor joined the Royal Navy.

He was a very keen football player, playing for Pembroke Boro in the Welsh First Division.

He went on to captain the team and they won promotion to the Welsh First Division, and were the Division Champions on two occasions.

By this time, Trevor had started work for Dick Hayes in Pembroke Dockyard, where he remained until the Dockyard closed down.

He moved to Swansea for four years, then returned to run the Charlton Inn in Pembroke Dock, with persuasion from Tom Bowling and Howard John.

Trevor and his wife Mabel then returned to Milford Haven to run Ropery House children’s clothes shop.

After Mabel’s death in June 2012, Trevor moved into Pembroke Haven Residential Home.

He will be greatly missed by his family.

The family left to mourn are Susan and David (daughter and son-in-law); Stephanie (daughter); Simon, Oliver, Abigail and Susie (grandchildren); Harriet, Harrison, Ameila, Tylor, George, Aimee, Sohpie and Grace (great grandchildren).

The service was held at St Katherines and St Peters Church, Milford Haven, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn.

The bearers were David Williams (son-in-law); Simon and Oliver Williams (grandsons) and Tom Wheeler (granddaughter’s partner).

There were family flowers only with donations to RNLI.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

 

Ms T M John

Narberth

THE funeral took place on July 16 at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth of Ms Tina Mary John (formerly Thomas), of Croft Villas, Narberth, aged 43. Tina passed away suddenly at the Heath Hospital, Cardiff on 6 July 6.

Tina spent the early part of her life in Begelly, she attended Pentlepoir Junior School, Greenhill Comprehensive and did her teaching degree at Trinity College, Carmarthen. Before taking her degree she spent a few years working for NatWest Bank in Pembroke. She was a teacher at Prendergast School, Haverfordwest, formerly a teacher at St Aidens Church School, Wiston, and she also did supply work at other county primary schools.

Her main interests where her children to whom she was devoted, she gave all she possibly could to her family and to her job as a teacher, which she loved passionately.

Most of her free time was taken up ensuring the children got to and from their activities with both Zoe and Rhys with Welsh Basket Ball and Jordan with his football.

She was a member or St Andrews Church, Narberth where she helped with the flowers and reading during the services.

She was involved for a time with Haverfordwest Swimming club, when the children were members, and was well known throughout west Wales as a swimming official.

Tina made a great impression on everyone she met throughout her life.

She is survived by Zoe Thomas (daughter); Jordan and Rhys Thomas (sons); Peter John and Sharon (father and partner); Ann and Bob Adams (mother and step father); Adam John (brother); Callum and Bradley John (nephews), plus the very large extended family of many uncles, aunts, cousins, step brothers and step sister including all their families to numerous to include.

The bearers were Shane Higgon, Ceri Richards, Che Osmond, Stephen Howells, John Allison and Kevin Phelps.

The only flowers were three red roses from the children.

Mr R J Hall

Pembroke Dock

THERE was a very large gathering recently after the passing of well known Pembroke Dock man Mr Raymond James Hall.

He passed away on May 27.

He was a popular man in the town, he worked both locally and abroad for a long time until ill health caused retirement.

He was predeceased by his loving partner Dorothy Baker last year.

He leaves to mourn two very large families his son Peter and partner Christine; Tricia and Dave (daughter and son-in-law); Jean and Patsy (daughter and partner), and Stephen being the youngest.

He was also predeceased by a son Jonathan who died through a tragic accident in 1985.

He also leaves numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The bearers were Jei and Kyle Holroyd (grandsons); Lee Lawrence, Andrew Brace and Lee Thomas (grandsons), Colin Groves (family friend).

A beautiful eulogy was read by his son Stephen and Jodre Lawrence and Kyle Holroyd (grandchildren).

The service was held at St Johns followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E C Thomas and Sons, Pembroke Dock.

 

Mr J H Francis

Clynderwen

THE sudden death occurred at Bro Waldo, Clynderwen on July 9 of John Higgon Francis, aged 66 years.

The funeral service took place at St David’s Church, Clynderwen on July 16 followed by interment at St Non’s Church.

The service was officiated by Rev Kingsley Taylor, Canon Michael Davies and Huw George.

John went to Golden Grove Agricultural College after leaving Preseli School.

After leaving college he went to work away in Hertfordshire where he did relief milking.

When his father died in 1966, John came back to Pembrokeshire where he worked at Carswell Farm, St Florence and he also did a lot of relief milking for families in Pembrokeshire area.

For the past twenty years John worked at Barrett’s Hill Farm, Steynto, until he retired about five years ago, when he went to live in Bro Waldo.

The principal mourners were Mary Sweeny (sister); William (brother); Geraint (nephew); Chris, Katie and Becky, Angela (niece); Mark and Rohan, Adrian (nephew); Andrew (nephew); Pip and Daisy.

The bearers were Geraint lewis (nephew); Emrys Evans (friend Adrian and Andrew Sweeney (nephews); Dilys Francis, Huw, Neil and partner; Hancock family Penllwyn, Marion and Gareth Williams, Geraint Lewis and partner, Betty Thomas and David, Pauline and Iorwerth Richards, Jayne Foley, Brian and Jean Lewis, Iona, Kathy Phillips.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Kenneth Davies and Sons, Clynderwen.

There were family flowers only with donations to St David’s Church, c/o Ken Davies, Bro Waldo, Clynderwen.

 

Mrs J E Pollard

Milford Haven

MRS Joan Elizabeth Pollard (Davies) passed away on June 28 on Ward 10 at Withybush Hospital.

She was 71 and lived at Gateholm Avenue, Milford Haven.

As a native of Neyland she worked in retail sales in various Milford Haven establishments and was a charity shop manageress when she retired.

He main interests were reading, crossword puzzles, computing and bingo.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are David William Pollard (husband); Beverley and Neil Thomas (daughter and husband); Hannah and Bethan Thomas (granddaughters); Chloe Edmonds, Tom Edmonds and Abbie Edmonds (great grandchildren), plus various cousins and relatives around the county.

The service was held at St Katherine’s Church followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium.

Donations in lieu of flowers are for the Lifeboat Service.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, Milford Haven.

 

Mr J R K Peters

Llangwm

A LARGE crowd gathered at Knapp Farm, Llangwm on June 24 for the funeral of Keith Peters, who passed away at his home on June 17 after a short illness. He was 83.

Keith was brought up at Knapp Farm and this is where he farmed until his retirement at the age of 63.

On retirement, Keith enjoyed time with his family, visiting new places and spending time on his boat.

He leaves his wife Esmee and three daughters and sons-in-law Eleanor and Richard Harris, Isabel and David Evans and Rebecca and Paul Pugh. He also leaves his much-loved grandchildren James and Peter Harris, Charlotte and Olivia Evans and Martha Pugh.

During the service his nephew Peter George read a poem and his daughter Rebecca Pugh gave a eulogy.

The bearers were Barry Howlett, Dorian Davies, Alan Morgan, Paul Peters, Peter Williams and Billy Smith.

The service was taken by Rev Bryon Jones and the Rev Jane Goupillon and the pianist was Sian John.

There were family flowers only with donations to Sky Ward (children’s cancer unit) at The University of Wales Hospital, Cardiff, care of LATCH, a charity close to his heart. These are being received by Mr David Evans, Ty Newydd, Ashdale Lane, Llangwm.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

 

Mr T R Shinner

(Formerly of Milford Haven)

THOMAS Reginald Shinner (Reg) of Capel Road, Dafen, Llanelli, and formerly of Milford Haven, passed away peacefully at Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli, on July 25.

He was ex BSC Trostre.

He was a devoted husband of Gwen; beloved father of Carol and Gary; dear fatherin- law of Paul and Margaret and a cherished grampy of Rhys, Laura and her husband Rhys.

Reg will be dearly missed by all his loving family and friends.

The funeral took place on August 2 at Llanelli Crematorium.
