Mr S L H Lewis

Crundale

MR STEPHEN Llewelyn Hughes Lewis of Hardings Causeway, Crundale, Haverfordwest passed away at home on August 11 at the age of 74.

Stephen spent the first 14 years of his life in Haverfordwest and attended Milford Haven Grammar School. At 14 he went to the naval training ship ‘The Worcester’ after which he gained his second mate’s ticket in the Merchant Navy, mostly sailing on the South American runs.

He came ashore in 1962 and found employment in London with shipping companies.

In 1964 he married Sheila (nee Woolcock) and made their home in Shepperton for seven years where they raised their two daughters Philippa and Sian.

They moved then to Brenchley in Kent where they spent 23 years. He was a founder member of Kentish Vale Round Table and an active member of the local village community and parish church.

In 1994 Stephen and Sheila returned to Pembrokeshire making their home in Crundale.

Stephen joined in village life and was secretary of the Spittal Branch of the Royal British Legion for a few years. He attended Rudbaxton Church until a few years ago when his health deteriorated.

The funeral and internment took place on August 20 at Rudbaxton Church and was officiated by canon Geoffrey Gwyther. The bearers were Neil MacAskill, Neil Cotterill, Philip Woolcock and Peter Bannister.

The principal mourners were Sheila Hughes Lewis (wife); Philippa and Neil MacAskill, Sian and Neil Cotterill (daughters and sons-inlaw); Jamie, Maisie, Joshua and Alfie (grandchildren), Pat and Peter Bannister, Philip and Sue Woolcock (sisters- in-law and brothers-inlaw), plus nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; Judy McShane (cousin) and Janet Llewellyn (cousinin- law).

Unable to attend were Dr Brian and Margaret Clark, Denmark.

There were family flowers only with donations if so desired to the Royal British Legion and sent c/o Mrs Sheila Hughes Lewis, Hardings Causeway, Crundale, Haverfordwest SA62 4DF.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

 

Mrs W D James

Hakin, Milford Haven

MRS WINIFRED Dilys James of Hayston Avenue, Hakin, Milford Haven passed away at Withybush Hospital on August 6, after a short illness.

She was the devoted wife of the late Arthur Fraser James, a former director of James Bros (butchers) of Milford Haven.

Winifred (Winnie) James (nee Davies) was born and raised in Havenshead, Hakin, the youngest of six children namely Rhona, Sal and Doris, Gordon and Ronnie.

She attended local schools in Hakin and Milford Haven.

Upon leaving school she had various clerical employments before joining the police force during WW2.

Upon marrying Arthur Fraser James in December 1951 she devoted her time to being a housewife and raising two daughters Jeanette Elizabeth (Hogg) and Margaret Sarah (Merrett).

Winnie was proud to be a founder member of Milford Haven Inner Wheel (founded in 1959) for which she remained an active member throughout her life. She was also a member of Mothers’ Union of St Mary’s Church, Milford Haven and latterly an attendee of Havenhurst Day Centre where she enjoyed many entertaining afternoons.

The funeral took place at St David’s Church, Hubberston (where she was married in 1951) followed by internment at Milford Haven cemetery to be reunited with Arthur. The service was conducted by the Rev Andy Bookless.

The bearers were Roger Hogg, Roger Merrett, Dustin Merrett and Martin Smith.

The principal mourners were Jeanette Hogg and Margaret Merrett (daughters); Roger Hogg and Roger Merrett (son- in-laws); Sian and Gary Vaughan, Sophie and Andrew Donoghue, Caroline and Wayne Fulham, Dustin and Zoe Merrett, Faye and Andre Liem, Ceri and Stefan Jacobsen (grandchildren and spouses); Sam and Freddie, Ellis and Esme, Eloise, Jacob and Finn (great grandchildren).

Winnie will be sadly missed by all family and friends for whom she was much loved and admired. There were family flowers only but donations in lieu to RNLI c/o Mr John Haughey 12 Hayston Avenue Hakin Milford Haven.

Mrs Kay Perry

Neyland

THE DEATH occurred at Bush House Nursing Home of Mrs Kay Perry of Phillips Walk, Mastlebridge, Neyland on September 13. She was 89.

She worked as local government officer and was also a housewife, enjoying travelling.

She was in the RAF between 1941 and 1945 and also worked in the Control Commission in Germany between 1946 and 1948.

She leaves to mourn her husband John Perry. The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was officiated by Father Harri Williams.

Donations in lieu of flowers for the Pembrokeshire Alzheimer’s Society, 4 Temeraire House, Nelson Quay, Milford Haven SA73 3BN.

Miss L K John

Lamphey

A LARGE gathering of family and friends attended the funeral of Miss Laura Katrina John who passed away peacefully at home on September 1. Laura was aged 13.

Left to mourn are her family Wayne and Dominique John (parents); Robert and Dylan (brothers); Stephen and Diane Boswell (grandparents); Stuart and Toni Boswell (uncle and aunty); Samantha and Ian Osborne (aunty and uncle); Joshua, Shania, Monica, Tegan, Gethin, Holly, Tae and Taryn (cousins); other great aunts, great uncles and cousins too numerous to mention; Rose and Brian Smith (special friends); Michelle Smith (big sister) and Marc Stanley (special friends).

The funeral service took place at St Johns Church, Pembroke Dock on September 11 and was conducted by Rev Nicky Skipworth, the bearers were Stuart Boswell, Mark James, Ian Osborne (uncles) and Joshua Boswell (cousin).

Laura was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at two months of age. Throughout her life she had fought many illnesses but always found a reason to smile. Laura attended Lamphey Primary School from four years of age and during this time she became a big part of a very special class. She led a fun-filled, normal school life.

Laura then moved to secondary school where she attended Portfield. During her time at Portfield school she was able to take part in many more activities such as swimming, music and drama classes. Laura’s zest for life and her amazing smile was infectious and has left an everlasting impression on everybody that she met.

Laura loved snooker and rugby and loved being out and about meeting people.

She particularly loved to people watch and enjoyed watching other children playing.

Mrs G M Phillips

Milford Haven

THE death occurred peacefully on August 29 after a short illness of Mrs Gwyneth Mary Phillips (nee Rhead) at Morriston Hospital, Swansea.

She was 51 and from Priory Road, Milford Haven.

After leaving school she worked as a VAT clerk at Rees and Hayden Accountants, Haverfordwest until she left to have her daughter Gemma, she then became a full-time mum.

She enjoyed ballroom dancing in her teenage years and also liked reading, knitting, cross stitch, socialising and family life.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Gemma and Luke (daughter and son-in-law); May, Pamela and Chris, Judith, Kathleen and Rob, Linda and John (sisters and brothers-in-law); Richard and Leanne, Rebecca and Steve, Dale, Jamie (nephews and nieces); Robert Phillips (daughter’s father).

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was officiated by Rev Paul Bartlett.

The bearers were John Sampson, Chris Jones, Robert Jenkins, Dale Morgan.

The main bearers were Linda Sampson, Judith Bovey, Kathleen Rhead and Pamela Rhead-Jones.

There were immediate family flowers only with donations in lieu for the ITU Department, Morriston Hospital, Swansea which may be sent to Mr R Jenkins, 29 Alban Crescent, Waterston, Milford Haven SA73 1DY.

Mrs L Griffiths

Hakin

MRS LORNA Griffiths of John Lewis Street, Hakin, Milford Haven, passed away on September 1 at home, at the age of 61.

Lorna was born in Bridgend, but moved to Milford Haven when she was a teenager.

She spent the majority of her career working as a care assistant at Milford House, which she gained a great deal of enjoyment and satisfaction, helping, supporting and caring for others.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were Joan Paterson (mother); Paula, Debbie, Dean and Shane Griffiths (children); Kay Griffiths, Nicola Griffiths, Wendy Debruin (daughters-in-law); Ian Griffiths (son-in-law); Jessica, Justin, Owyn and Cerys Griffiths, Nick and Mel Thomas, Laura and Tommy Goodridge (grandchildren and spouse); Jane Paterson and Claire Abraham (niece and partner).

The funeral took place at St Davids Church, Hubberston, followed by internment at Milford Haven Cemetery and was officiated by Reverend William Lewis. The bearers were Shane Griffiths, Justin Griffiths, Nick Thomas and Paul Devonald.
