Pembroke Dock

MRS Glennys Edwards, a native of Pembroke Dock passed away peacefully at Ashdale Nursing Home, Pembroke on September 27.

She was 94. She had borne her long illness with smiles, humour and dignity. She was the longest surviving of the five children born to Beatrice and Bertie Emment, a master baker of the town. She was born in Wellington Street where she spent her childhood.

She endeavoured to join both the WRAF and the WRENs during the war but was refused due to being in a reserved occupation. She was a member of the fire brigade from 1942-1945 and representatives of the current brigade were present to mark her service and pay their respects.

Glennys eventually settled in Meyrick Street, via The Prefabs where she brought up her family. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 1984. She was a caring, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and she will be deeply missed by all her family. She delighted in her involvement with the YMCA for 35 years, appearing on stage in many charity productions. She was a devout member of Bethel Baptist Chapel from where she drew her strength and involved herself in their many good works. She derived great joy from the fellowship of her church activities.

Glennys leaves a large family to mourn her passing, her children Paul, Valmai and Angela; their spouses Liz, Mick and Alan; her grandchildren Michelle, Taliesin, Chris and Danielle; her great grandchildren Lily, Isaac, Teilo, Abbie and Grace along with her step daughters and step great grandchildren.

Also grieving at this time are numerous nephews and nieces along with many good friends.

A beautiful service celebrating her long life was held in Bethel Schoolroom, conducted by Rev Roger Hart who had known Glennys well for many years. The large congregation bore testimony to the affection in which she was held by the community.

The bearers were Taliesin and Chris (grandsons); Alan (son-in-law); Dean (grandsonin- law).

The funeral arrangements were carried out by John Roberts and Son, of Pembroke Dock.

 

Ms S E Cole

St Davids

A SERVICE to celebrate the life of Susan Elaine Cole (nee Rees) of St Davids, formerly of Whitland, was held at Tabernacle C M Church, St Davids on September 2. Susan was 55 and the loving mother of Sara and Edward, cherished daughter of Joan and the late Vivian Rees, Trecenny, a much loved sister of Graham and his wife Alison, and aunt to Daniel and Bethan.

She was educated at the St Davids County Primary and Ysgol Dewi Sant schools.

Susan was a member of the Tabernacle Sunday School and was later received into membership of the church.

As a member of Brawdy YFC she enjoyed taking part in comedy sketches, public speaking and also stock judging competitions and represented Wales as a member of the public speaking team, Susan was also active in Urdd competitions and enjoyed attending its youth camp at Bala Lake.

Her ambition was to be a primary school teacher but illness prevented her from doing so. She later joined the staff at Lloyds Bank in Haverfordwest and St Davids.

She married Richard and moved to Llwyngwydd where Sara and Edward were brought up. She enjoyed being a member of the Whitland WI and was a member of the committee. During this time her health deteriorated and she had to have a kidney transplant.

Later, she moved back to St Davids and qualified as a learning support assistant working at Hayscastle, Letterston and Solva school, thus fulfilling her wish to work with children. She joined St Davids Merched y Wawr where her joyful personality made her a popular member.

After suffering a brain haemorrhage, she could no longer work in school which was a source of regret to her. However, she was determined to overcome this setback, and later volunteered to work in the local charity shop ‘Siop y Bobol’ which she served for five years.

Susan’s outgoing personality enabled her to communicate easily with strangers, and all who knew her will remember her for her positive approach to life and her wonderful sense of humour.

The service was conducted by Rev William Owen, assisted by Revs Guto Llewelyn, Geraint Morse, Richard Rees, Huw George and Canon Dorrien Davies. The large attendance of family and friends from the county and beyond was testimony to her popularity. The poem, ‘When tomorrow starts without me’ was read by Mrs Dilys Rees.

The organist was Mrs Jane James. Susan was laid to rest in St Davids Cemetery.

The bearers were Edward Cole (son); Taliesin Maynard (daughter’s fiancé), Graham Rees (brother); Daniel Rees (nephew).

The principal mourners were her close family members together with many other relatives and friends.

There were family flowers only with donations in memory of Susan, if desired, for Kidney Research, kindly received by W G Mathias, 62 Nun Street, St Davids SA62 6SU who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

 

Mrs M H Bright

Pennar

MRS Maureen Hilda Bright of Stranraer Road, Pennar passed away on October 7.

She was 79.

Originally from Willesden she was a wages clerk for Lyons and Heinz. She was a wages clerk when she retired in 1969 from Firth Cleveland Extrusions in Ferry Lane.

Her main interests were knitting and reading.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Mr Kenneth Bright (husband); Mrs Suzanne Stephens and Jim Stephens (daughter and son-in-law); Mr Matthew Stephens (grandson and Trish); Michelle Gould (granddaughter); Ieuan Gould (great grandson); Cerwyn Gould (great grandson); Evie Stephens (great granddaughter); Brian Davis, Terry Davis and Gordon Davis (brothers and families); Diane and Mervyn James (sister and brother-in-law); Gill Davis, Glenys Oliver and Edie David (sisters-in-law and families).

The funeral service took place at St Patricks Church followed by internment at Llanion Cemetery. It was officiated by Rev Canon Andrew Davis and the bearers were Justin Davis, Jason Davis, Michael Davis and Stephen Davis (nephews).

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for British Heart Foundation c/o E c Thomas and Son Funeral Directors, Zoar Chapel Funeral Home, Llanteg, Narberth SA67 8LT who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

 

Mr T W Eynon

Pembroke Dock

The death occurred on October 9 at Withybush Hospital of Mr Trevor William Eynon of Sycamore Street, Pembroke Dock. He was 70.

As a native of Pembroke Dock he worked as a steel erector on many refineries, both locally and in other parts of the country. He was working on the Cleddau Bridge when it collapsed in 1970.

He last worked at Castlemartin Camp for the government, which was taken over by W S Atkins as plant operator.

Trevor liked all sports both football and rugby, he was a big supporter of the Pennar Robins and the Scarlets.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Brenda (wife); Susan Morgan, Ian Davies (stepchildren); Eleanor (granddaughter); Owen and Billy (cousins); Barbara Eynon and Barbara Thomas (sisters- in-law); Bill Morgan and Susie Davies (unable to attend).

The service was held at Parc Gwyn, Narberth and was officiated by Nicky Skipworth.

The bearers were Paul Hay, Mark Parcell, Robert Powell and Byron Williams.

There were family flowers only but donations if desired in lieu of flowers to the British Heart Foundation c/o Mr Graham Thomas, 34 Charles Thomas Avenue, Pembroke Dock.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E C Thomas and Son Funeral Directors, Pembroke Dock.
