THE funeral took place recently of Mr Roy Evans of Llys Owen, Goodwick who passed away suddenly at Withybush Hospital on June 28 at the age of 74.

Roy was born in Prendergast, Haverfordwest being one of six children and resided there for much of his youth. At a young age he worked alongside his father then in their local Coal Merchant business.

His working life was always through the means of a self employed businessman until retirement.

In 1964 he married Sheila his wife of 50 years this year and had one daughter Debbie.

He spent most of his married life residing in Goodwick.

Roy in his retired capacity devoted the majority of his time to caring for his wife and supporting his family with unconditional support for his only grandson Niall.

He still found time to take an active interest in dogs and his passion for greyhounds.

Roy was a keen sportsman in his youth including football and karting at competitive level and he continued to be involved as a supporter alongside his grandson on many occasions.

The funeral service was held at Church of Holy Name RC Fishguard on Friday July 11 followed by interment at St Marys, Fishguard, which was kindly officiated by Father McGreal and assisted by Father R Patterson.

The principal mourners were Sheila (wife); Debbie and Nigel (daughter and son in law); Niall (grandson); Yvonne (sister); Ricky and Maria (brother and sister-inlaw); Jinette and Keith (sister and brother in law); Jo (sister in law) together with nieces, nephews with other close friends to the whole family.

Unable to attend Margaret Devereux (sister-in-law), Gerald and Gwen Fox (close friends).

The bearers were Messrs Ken Humphries, Latimer Fox, Chris Mitchell, Andy Reynolds, Karl Jones and Mackie Roche.

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu if desired to “Dogs Trust” or “British Heart Foundation” C/O Paul Jenkins and sons, Funeral Directors, Feidr Castell, Fishguard, SA65 9BB who carried out the arrangements on behalf of the family.

Pembroke

A LARGE congregation of family and friends attended the funeral of the above at St Mary’s Church, Pembroke on July 19 where her body had rested overnight.

Tydfil was the youngest daughter of the late David and Hannah Thomas of Penyard, Merthyr Tydfil and was born in 1912 in a Welsh speaking home.

Tydfil attended Abermorlais Junior School and won a scholarship to Cyfarthfa Castle Municipal Secondary School, Merthyr and she matriculated at Higher (Advanced) Level to enter Southampton University in 1931.

Due to serious illness she did not complete the course.

She married Emrys Morgan a fellow pupil at Cyfarthfa Castle School, and then a Trainee Pharmacist, in 1936 and they had four children, Alun later to become a Police Officer in the Glamorgan Constabulary, Huw who read law at Aberystwyth, Anna who studied Psychology at Bangor, and David Emrys who read Economics at Aberystwyth. Emrys was called up in the Second War and trained as a Navigator with the R.A. F. in Canada. At the end of the War he qualified as a pharmacist and his first managerial position was in Morriston, Swansea.

The family spent 16 happy years there until 1962 when Emrys was promoted to Aberystwyth.

In 1966 Emrys received his final promotion to the High Street Branch in Worcester. After his retirement, Emrys and Tydfil enjoyed cruises and travelling, visiting Anna, Nick and family in New Jersey, David and Paula in New York as well as their other friends and relatives in the U K.

They had made many friends living in the Bevere area of Worcester and after Emrys passed way in 1989 she stayed in the home until she was persuaded to move to Pembroke Dock in 2007.

After a short time at her granddaughter Sian’s home in Llanion, she moved to a bungalow in nearby Charles Thomas Avenue.

Despite failing eye sight she enjoyed the visits of daughter Anna and family from North Carolina, son David and family from New York and her eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and nephews and nieces and especially attending the regular lunches at Pembroke Dock Community Hall and the Male Voice Choir Concerts.

Daughter Anna passed away sadly in 2012 in North Carolina.

In 2012 she took up residence at Ashdale Nursing Home, Pembroke where she was lovingly cared for. She was a familiar figure to residents and visitors alike.

Tydfil passed away peacefully on July 4 at Ashdale.

The service at St Mary’s Church, Pembroke was officiated by the Reverend Canon Roger Jones. The reading from the First Letter to the Corinthians was made by Mrs Dorothy Morgan, daughter in law, assisted by the two eldest great grandchildren, Nia Williams and Cerys Morgan.

A tribute was given by Huw Morgan (son). The organist was Mrs Christine Lloyd of Pembroke Dock and Pembroke and District Male Voice Choir under Musical Director Mrs Lloyd gave renderings of “Calon Lan” and “Rachie.”

Cremation took place at Parc Gwyn in accordance with her wishes. The Reading and the Hymn were chosen by her son David Emrys and the service was conducted by Reverend Canon Roger Jones.

The principal mourners were sons Alun and Huw Morgan; daughters-in-law Lorna and Dorothy; son- inlaw Nick Gaglio; grandchildren Dr Sian Fairbairn, Mrs Sarah Dawson, Mr Simon Dawson and Masters Harri and George, Dr. Delyth Morgan and Teo, Mrs Anna Williams, Mr. Andrew Williams, and Nia, Morgan and Iolo, David Huw Morgan and Mrs Lisa Morgan, Cerys and Aled, Nicholas Emrys Gaglio and Catherine Inge; nephews and nieces Tyssul James, Raymond Thomas, Mrs Glenys James and Mrs Iona Thomas, Mr Orfyl James and Mrs Pamela James, and great niece Mrs Anna Rose also attended.

Unable to attend were son David Morgan, daughterin- law Paula and grandson Garth from New York, Mrs.

Lisa Gaglio, Mila and Vera, from New Jersey, and James Inge from Louisville Kentucky, as well as relatives from Merthyr and friends from Worcester.

Funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs John Roberts and Son, 51 Bush Street, Pembroke Dock.

There was a family wreath and two fresh roses were laid on the coffin at the church by great grandchildren Nia and Cerys.

Mrs A M Griffiths

Cresswell Quay

MRS Amy Muriel Griffiths of Hillside, Cresswell Quay, passed away on July 11 at Withybush Hospital. She was 95.

She started her working life in service at the vicarage in Pembroke, where she learned all her good housekeeping skills, cooking, sewing, cleaning and gardening.

She later worked for the Ladies Land Army where she met her husband of 66 years, Bert (who died in August 2012). They got married and she settled down to be a housewife, mother and nanny.

Her main interests were her home, her family, cooking, gardening and knitting.

Amy was a lifelong member of Pisgah Chapel, attending regularly until her health deteriorated. She also loved watching television, especially the rugby, football and snooker.

The family left to mourn are: Barbara (daughter), Angela and Bram (granddaughter and partner), Brian and Kate (grandson and wife), Elizabeth and Nick (granddaughter and partner), Ethan, Corey and Logan (great grandsons), nieces and nephews Roslyn, Dilys and Peter, Elizabeth and David, Janice and Tony, Kevin and Jan, Arthur and Shirley, Philip and Eunice, Brian and Eileen, Auriol and Olwyn, Clement and Pam, Nicholas, Robert and Mandy, Colin and Susan, Hilary, together with neighbours and friends.

Unable to attend were Thalia and Ted, Miriam, Colin, David, Shirley, Denise, Lloyd, Thalia and Fiona, Ray (nieces and nephews).

The funeral took place on July 17 at Pisgah Baptist Chapel, followed by interment in the chapel cemetery.

The bearers were David Young, Arthur Brady, Kevin Brady and Tony Scourfield (nephews).

Officiating was the Rev David Gooding and the organist Janice Scourfield (niece).

Unable to attend were Thalia and Ted, Miriam, Colin, David, Shirley, Denise, Lloyd, Thalia, Fiona and Ray (nieces and nephews).

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for Pisgah Baptist Chapel.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by EC Thomas and Sons, of Llanteg.

 

Mrs M M Thomas

Merlins Bridge

THE funeral took place on July 18 of Pat Thomas, who recently passed away peacefully at her home at 92 years of age, after receiving care from her close family and professionals.

Pat was raised in North Pembrokeshire with her parents and four sisters Mair, Peggy, Gwyneth, and Betty; brother John; and cousin Ian.

Pat married Les, initially moving to Hook and then to Merlins Bridge. Pat and Les had two children, Graham and Betty.

Pat and Les were active members of Albany Church.

Pat also worked as a volunteer for WRVS, along with her late sister Peggy. After Les passed away Pat became a grandmother to Rebecca and Matthew, children of Graham and his wife Kaye.

Pat is survived by her sister Gwyneth and sister-in-law Edna who are both in their nineties.

The funeral service was held at Albany Church, Haverfordwest and was officiated by Reverend Hugh John Wilson. A reading was made by Richard Laws and the organist was Christine Phillips.

The bearers were David Sigsworth, Ian Morgan, Eddie Morris, and Wyn Morris, nephews of Pat. Cremation took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth, later followed by interment at Mount Zion Chapel, Hook, led by Reverend Stephen Woods.

There were family flowers only. Any donations in memory of Pat are kindly requested for The Paul Sartori Foundation, 31, Haven Road, Haverfordwest, SA61 1DU.

Funeral arrangements were made by Roy Folland and Sons, Haverfordwest.

Pat will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and neighbours.
