Mr A J Puhlhofer

St Davids

MR Tony Puhlhofer died peacefully at his home in St Davids on October 20 aged 62 years.

The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on October 28.

The bearers were Anthony Puhlhofer (son); Richard Brill, Matthew Gover (sonsin- law) and Joseph Brill (grandson).

The family left to mourn are Tracey and Richard Brill, Tara and Matthew Gover (daughters and sons-in-law); Anthony and Ellen Puhlhofer (son and daughter-in-law) and his grandchildren Jodie, Joseph, Leah, Lailah and Verity.

Also his wife Pam.

Tony joined the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm at 15 and qualified as a naval air mechanic.

Drafted to HMS Goldcrest, Brawdy he met his first wife Rita. Their first born daughter Tracey was born in Haverfordwest.

Moving to Yeovil, he served on HMS Eagle and worked on Lynx helicopters.

During his naval service he established himself as a boxer, excelling at bantam and feather weight, attaining combined service level.

The family then settled in Middlesex where he was employed by Pinewood Studios which saw him working on many film productions, notably the Wombles, Bond and Superman.

He kept a stall at Covent Garden selling bronze statues and this time holds many fond memories for Tracey and Tara who spent weekends with him watching the many street artists perform.

Tony then made a career change becoming a retail manager in hardware.

A keen fisherman, Tony was at his happiest casting a line with his son Anthony at Rickmansworth and latterly enjoyed fishing by the river.

In 1994 the family made the decision to move back to Pembrokeshire where he and Rita made their home together in Johnston. It brought Tony great comfort and joy to witness his family grow and to see his children settled with families of their own.

 

Mrs B E Murphy

Haverfordwest

BRENDA Eileen Murphy of De Clare Court, Haverfordwest, passed away on September 17 in Withybush Hospital with her family by her side.

She was 86.

Many friends and family members attended her funeral which was held on Monday September 29 at St Martin’s Church, Haverfordwest.

The service was followed by interment at Freystrop cemetery where Brenda was laid to rest with her son, the late Terry Murphy, who predeceased her in 2004.

The bearers were Adam Murphy, Gareth Campbell, Phil Jones, Chris Blockwell, Gethin Thomas and Bryan Devon.

Brenda spent much of her life living in Merlins Bridge.

Many will remember Brenda for her years spent working in Woolworths where she was a valued respected and extremely popular member of staff.

Brenda was renowned for her sense of fun and in her younger years entertained many with her piano and accordion playing.

Brenda had a great love of sport and especially enjoyed football, snooker and motor racing.

The principal mourners are Brett Campbell (granddaughter); Adam Murphy (grandson); Shirley Jones and Fay Blockwell (nieces); Andrew Roberts (nephew); Ann Thomas and Carol Devon (nieces) and David Harris (nephew).

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Cartlett, Haverfrodwest.

Mr A H Rees

New Hedges

THE death occurred of Mr Alun Harries Rees of Hunters Park, New Hedges, Tenby on October 17 at his home. He was 67.

Originally from Craig-Cefn- Parc near Swansea he began teaching in Greenhill School, Tenby in 1968 where he spent the next 37 years.

A highly respected and dedicated teacher remembered for his austere and forbidding nature but was kind, fair and understanding, never afraid to ruffle feathers in support of students in his care. He sang with the Tenby Male Voice Choir for over 30 years, a member of Heatherton Indoor Bowls Club, he loved walking in the local area, an avid reader and rugby fan, full time and hands on grandfather and he loved his garden.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Mair (wife); Cat and Nic (daughters); Lloyd Bowen (son-in-law); Max, Lewis, Tal, Osian and Freja (grandchildren); Bethan (sister).

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was officiated by Rev Andrew Davies and John Morgan (friend).

The bearers were Gerald Richards, Eric Mullins, Max and Lewis, Paul Cage and David Williams (brothers-inlaw).

There were family flowers only with donations for the Paul Sartori Foundation c/o E C Thomas and Son, Zoar Chapel Funeral Home, Llanteg, Narberth SA67 8QH, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

 

Mr T H Edwards

St Ishmaels

MR Thomas Henry Edwards of Grove Road, St Ishmaels passed away at home on October 15. He was 90.

Originally from Marloes he spent nearly all his life in St Ishmaels. He started work at St Brides Hospital as a garden labourer after the war.

He progressed to become a head gardener of hospitals and health centres in Pembrokeshire and also in Carmarthenshire and Cardiganshire.

He retired in 1988.

Tom joined the Royal Navy once he was old enough and served in the Second World War.

In his early retirement he enjoyed caring for his large garden and walking in the surrounding countryside. He also enjoyed watching a variety of sports on television.

He maintained an avid interest in the village throughout his life. He also enjoyed playing bingo and whist at St Ishmaels sports and social club.

He was a member of the Pensioners Monday Club in St Ishmaels, taking part in the various activities. The outings were a particular favourite.

He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys in 2006.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Philip and Sally (son and partner); Gillian and Robert (daughter and son-in-law); Ruth and Rosemary (nieces); Dai and Audrey (cousin); nieces and nephews from Scotland and Newcastle, cousins from Derby, brotherin- law, sisters-in-law and nephews were unable to attend.

The funeral service was held at St Ishmaels Church followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn. The ashes were interred at St Ishmaels Cemetery.

It was officiated by Canon John Davies.

There were family flowers only with donations for Arthritis Research UK c/o Mr R Bartlett, 6 Grove Road, St Ishmaels.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, of Milford Haven.

 

Mrs B Payne

Roch

FAMILY and friends were saddened to hear of the sudden death of Beryl Payne of Plasgrug, Roch on October 9 at her home, aged 79.

The funeral took place on Friday October 17 at Penuel Chapel, Roch where a large number of relatives, friends and neighbours gathered to pay their last respects being a very popular member of the community.

The service was officiated by Revd Hywel Brown.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother and during her life she had been a very active member of Penuel Chapel, Roch.

Predeceased by her daughter Allison 2 ½ years ago she leaves to mourn her daughter Jacqueline; son-in-law Rod; granddaughter and partner Rhian and Marc, grandson and wife Nathan and Natasha, great grandchildren Layla and Ollie.

There were donations in lieu of flowers for Penuel Baptist Chapel which will be kindly received by funeral director Mr Bernard Mathias, 62 New Street, St Davids, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

 

Mrs P B De Keersmaecker

Formerly of Milford Haven

MRS Pearl Bernadine De Keersmaecker (nee Westenborg) passed away on June 25 in Brussels, Belguim.

Born in Milford Haven she attended the old Grammar School in York Street. After leaving school she worked as a telephonist at the GPO in Hamilton Terrace. Whilst working there during the Second World War she met her husband Roger, a Belgian pilot flying from Talbenny with the Belgian Airforce.

At the end of the war they were married in 1947 and retrained to live in Brussels, where Roger resumed his Airforce career. They had two daughters Pamela-Jane and Christianne. After bringing up her family Pearl resumed her career at the Canadian Embassy in Brussels where she worked for 13 years. During this time Roger went on to join Nato Forces based in Brussels, which made them many friends from different countries.

After retiring they divided their time between Brussels and Pembrokeshire.

Roger died in 2002 and Pearl spent the later years of her life in Pembrokeshire.

The family left to mourn are her sister Pamela, her two daughters Pamela-Jane and Christianne; grandchildren David,Aline and Laetita; great grandchildren Sam, Sarah, Lucas, Mathias and Alexis. Also her niece and nephews Sara Jane, Richard and Andrew. The cremation took place in Brussels in June.

 

Mrs G Owens

Hayscastle

THE death occurred on October 18 of Mrs Glenys Owens, aged 87 of Carmina, Hayscastle.

She was predeceased by her husband Emrys in 1996, and lived at Carmina since 1947.

She was a faithful member of Noddfa Newton Baptist Chapel, Hayscastle, and of the Over 65 Club and Women’s Institute, Wolfscastle, with which she particularly enjoyed going on outings.

She had a great love of her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A large gathering of family and friends attended her funeral on October 25 at Nodffa Newton Chapel followed by interment at Puncheston Cemetery. The service was officiated by her minister, the Rev Aled Jenkins assisted by Rev Geoffrey Eynon and Mrs Marlene Jenkins. The organist was Miss Rhiannon Evans and the bearers were Irwyn James, Brian John, George Davies and Peter Morse.

The principal mourners were Rhydwyn and Rose (son and daughter-in-law); Cynthia and Howard (daughter and son-in-law); Teifion (son); Eirlys and Barry (daughter and son-in-law). Also present were all her grandchildren and many other family members too numerous to mention.

There were family flowers only but donations in lieu for Alzheimer’s Research may be sent to Paul Jenkins and Sons, Feidr Castell, Fishguard SA65 9BB who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
