Milford Haven

MR WALTER Phillip Harries (known as Phillip) passed away at Withybush Hospital on April 23.

He lived at Woodlands Crescent, Milford Haven and was 91.

During his working life he was an electrician, his final job before retirement in 1991 was as a maintenance manager at Withybush Hospital.

His interests included being a member of Milford Haven Bowling Club until his sight became too poor for him to play. He loved gardening and enjoyed watching all types of sport.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Margaret Eileen Harries (known as Eileen) (wife); Nancy (sister); Wendy and Richard (daughter and sonin- law); Nathan (grandson); Sarah (step granddaughter); great grandchildren Leigh and Zac, and step grandson Luke, plus a wider family including many cousins, nephews and nieces.

The service was held at North Road Baptist Chapel, followed by a service at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on May 3. It was officiated by Rev Martyn Evans.

The bearers were members of the Milford Haven Bowls Club.

Donations in lieu of flowers to Paul Sartori Foundation, Winch Lane, Haverfordwest SA61 1RP The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, of Milford Haven.

Mrs G P Lewis

Hayscastle

IT WAS with great sadness that members of the community learned of the recent sudden death of Mrs Gwendoline Pearl Lewis of Brynawel, Hayscastle.

Aged 76, the deceased who had not enjoyed robust health for several years was the fourth of ten children born to Leonard and Elizabeth Jenkins of Middle Broadmoor Farm, Talbenny.

Farming was her whole delight and she worked on a number farms before her marriage to Ronald Lewis in 1959. The couple farmed very successfully at Tyrhos, Hayscastle and later together with Bwlchyrhos, Little Newcastle until taking their well earned retirement to Brynawel in 2001.

Well known and highly respected enjoying the company of a wide circle of friends, Mrs Lewis took great pride in her home and family and became a regular worshipper at St Lawrence Parish Church.

She also took a keen interest in the local Women’s Institute at Hayscastle and in the popular Over 55’s club.

Her husband Ronnie, who passed away 11 years ago, was particularly well known across the county as a knowledgeable farmer, stockman and businessman.

The deceased will be sadly missed by her daughter Janet, son Graham and daughter-in-law, Sian and grandchildren, Michael and Rachael to whom the most sincere sympathy is extended in their sad loss.

There was a very large gathering for the funeral which took place at Noddfa Newton Baptist Church, Hayscastle followed by interment at the adjoining cemetery. The officiating ministers were Rev Aled Jenkins pastor, and Rev Richard Davies vicar of the Church of St Peter, Little Newcastle (deputising for Rev Michael Rowlands, vicar of St Lawrence). The organist was Geraint Evans.

The bearers were Paul James, Michael Price, Richard Lewis and Robert Dixon.

Principal mourners were Janet Lewis (daughter); Graham and Sian Lewis (son and daughter-in-law); Michael and Rachael Lewis (grandchildren); John Jenkins, Betty Coates, George and Val Jenkins, Jean and Brindley Vaughan, Mansel and Glenys Jenkins, Leslie and Dorothy King, Maureen Jones, Kenneth Jenkins and Elsie Jenkins (brothers and sisters and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law) together with numerous cousins, nephews and nieces and close friends of the family.

There were family flowers only but donations in lieu, if desired, for the British Heart Foundation are being gratefully accepted by the undertakers, Paul Jenkins & Sons, Feidr Castell, Fishguard.

Dr A K Ritchie

Devon

Formerly of Milford Haven

ON MARCH 29 Dr Alan Kerr Ritchie passed away peacefully at his home in Braunton, Devon.

Alan was the second son of William and Ella Ritchie.

He was born and educated in Milford Haven and studied medicine at Birmingham University and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, BIrmingham.

Alan did National Service in the Army Royal Medical Corp in Berlin and Iserlhon in Germany where he specialised in Obstetrics, delivering nearly 5000 babies. He practiced as a G.P. in Redditch for 40 years. Alan was an accomplished swimmer and Scuba diver, golfer, wood turner and painter and enjoyed developing his skills on his retirement to Braunton.

He leaves to mourn his wife Barbara, children Christopher, Dawn and families and his brother John and sister Jean.

Miss C Abrams

Hundleton

MISS CHRISTINE Abrams of River View, Hundleton, Pembroke passed away on April 11 at her home.

She was 59.

Chris had a full and varied working life, starting with Pembrokeshire County Council in admin, then leaving to care for her mum.

When her mum passed away in 2009, Chris went back to work as a shop assistant and was latterly employed as a Community Care Worker.

Chris was a skilled baker and craftswoman who loved animals and was greatly devoted to her family in particular her nieces and nephews The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Wyndham (brother); Kathleen and Keith (sister and brother- in-law); Marilyn (sister); Davinia and Clive (sister and brother-in-law). She will also be fondly remembered by all her nieces and nephews.

The bearers were Phillip, Paul, Dean (nephews); Clive (brother-in-law).

The funeral service was held at Gilead Calvinistic Methodist Chapel, Maidenwells and was officiated by Rev Martyn Evans. The organist was Mr Chris Griffiths.
