Mr R. G. Griffiths

Saundersfoot

Raymond George Griffiths, of Francis Road, Saundersfoot, died at Withybush Hospital on August 6th. He was 70.

He was originally from Ammanford and started his working life in the coal mining industry.

Due to ill-health he worked on the surface as a crane driver. He then worked in the building industry until his retirement.

His interests included rugby, football and cricket and he had a keen interest in tropical fish.

He also enjoyed socialising with his family and friends at the Captain’s Table, in Saundersfoot.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Ian and Eli (son and daughter-in-law); Tom (grandson); Louise and Adam Pinnell (granddaughter and husband); Gwyn Griffiths (brother), together with family and friends.

Unable to attend was Lee Griffiths (son, living in America).

The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was officiated by Rev Elwyn John. The bearers were Thomas Griffiths (grandson), John Cheshire (brother-in-law), Paul Edwards, Steve Ellis, David Wirth and Butch (family friends).

There were family flowers only, with donations for the ITU, Withybush Hospital c/o E. C. Thomas and Son, Archways, Greenplains, Stepaside SA67 8LT, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mrs E. M. Callan

Pembroke Dock

The death occurred on August 8th of Edith Mary Callan, of St Teilo’s Road, Pembroke Dock.

She was 76 and died at Withybush Hospital following a short illness.

The funeral was held on August 15th, at St John’s Church, Pembroke Dock, followed by interment at Llanion Cemetery. Rev Thelma Barber officiated.

The principal mourners were Reg (husband); Janet and Eddie (daughter and son-in-law); Shaun (grandson); Gemma and Jason (granddaughter and husband), together with other family members and friends.

The bearers were Stephen Morgan, Stuart Panton, Martin James and Victor Saunders.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by John Roberts and Son, Pembroke Dock.

Mrs S. M. Jenkins

Pembroke (formerly of Martletwy)

The funeral took place on August 25th of Sheila May Jenkins, who died at her home in Marshall Road, Monkton, Pembroke, after a short illness. She was 74.

Originally from Martletwy, she had spent the past 43 years in Monkton.

She was predeceased in 2005 by her husband Ben.

A large gathering of family and friends attended the funeral, which was officiated by Rev Hywel Brown. The bearers were Stephen, Neil, Paul and David (grandsons).

The principal mourners were Marion and Robert, Diana and Frank (daughters and sons-in-law); Malcolm and Margaret (son and partner); Clifford and Susan (son and daughter-in-law); Neil, Paul, Stephen, Sian, David, Michael, Martyn, Gemma and Luke (grandchildren); Ciara, Keavy, Erin, Niamh and Alanna (great-granddaughters); Elwyn and Bronwen, John and Audrey (brothers and sisters-in-law); Alan and Sue, Max (brothers-in-law and sister-in-law); Molly (sister-in-law), together with relatives and friends. Unable to attend were Gwen and Glenys (sisters-in-law).

There were family flowers only but if desired, donations in lieu for Martletwy Baptist Chapel, may be sent to Graham Thomas, 34 Charles Thomas, Avenue, Pembroke Dock, SA72 6UR.

Mrs L. M. Simmonds

Pembroke Dock

The death occurred of Lilian Mary Simmonds at South Pembrokeshire Hospital, on August 19th, following a short stay. She was 88 and lived in Market Street, Pembroke Dock.

During the Second World War she worked at the goods office at Pembroke Dock Railway Station, and also at the Nutshell, Queen Street, Pembroke Dock.

She belonged to the YWCA, the Friendship Club and the Cleddau Day Centre and was a faithful worshipper at St John’s Church, Pembroke Dock. She was also a member of the Mothers’ Union.

She was predeceased by her husband Albert Ernest Simmonds in 1981.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Jacqueline Gorton and husband, Terry, Diane Martin and husband, Russell, Pauline Lathan and husband, Keith (daughters and sons-in-law); Simon and Julie Griffiths and Haydn and Debbie Griffiths (grandsons and wives); Neil Gorton (grandson); Michelle Gorton and Noel (granddaughter and partner); Gareth Hearn (grandson); Claire and Ross Peniket (granddaughter and husband); Thomas, Elinor, Lauryn, Seren, Jack and Harry (great-grandchildren); Bob Ridley, Michael, Peter, Catherine and Cecilia (cousins).

The service was held at St John’s Church, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn and was officiated by Rev Thelma Barber.

The bearers were Simon Griffiths, Hadyn Griffiths, Gareth Hearn and Neil Gorton (grandsons).

Mrs M. D. Dumazel

Milford Haven

The death occurred at Withybush Hospital on August 26th of Mary Diana Dumazel, of Rickeston Mill Nursing Home, Milford Haven. She was 86.

She was a housewife and mother and served in the ATS as a plotter during the war.

Her interests were her home and her family.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Angie and Chris (daughter and son-in-law); Julie and Terry (daughter and son-in-law); Jimmy (son); Nicky, James, Charlotte, Shelley and Rhys, Mike, Jonny and Amelia, James (grandchildren and partners); Gwen and Jim (sister and brother-in-law); Mick and Chris (brother and sister-in-law); Clon and Av (brother and sister-in-law); Jim (brother); Phil, Liz and family; Bev, Pam and family; Kitty and Dave; Kim, Jan, Steve and family; Tony and Jan and other family and friends.

The funeral service was held on September 2nd at St Mary’s Church, Talbenny and was officiated by Rev Andrew Johnson.

The bearers were James Dicks, Michael Venables, Jonathan Venables and James Venables (grandsons).

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

Mr C. S. Rees

Pembroke

Charles Rees died suddenly, but peacefully, on August 25th, at The Haven residential care home in Pembroke Dock.

Born in 1918 he attended the Coronation School in Pembroke Dock before taking up an apprenticeship at Silcox and Sons.

He joined the army at the outbreak of the Second World War and following training with the REME . He attained the rank of staff sergeant. He was severely injured in Normandy and left the Army in late 1944.

Following a spell in agriculture he worked for the REME at Llanion Barracks until its closure when he joined the Ministry of the Environment.

In the 1950s he was a keen supporter of Pembroke Borough FC.

A keen gardener, he supplied relatives and friends with vegetables and flowers well into his 80s.

Charles was predeceased by his wife Doreen in June 2007.

The principal mourners are Ray and Christine Rees (son and daughter-in-law); Siwan and Huw (grandchildren); Erny Wright (nephew); Graham Rees (nephew) and Caroline; Beryl Norbury (sister-in-law); Jimmy Norbury and Janet (nephew); Harold and Dulcie Thomas (brother-in-law and sister-in-law) and David; Clive Richards (nephew) and Angela. Unable to attend were Rev Terry Richards (nephew) and Dawn, and nieces Nicola, Lindsay and Sarah.

The service at St Michael’s Church was conducted by Rev Roger Jones. The funeral arrangements were carried out by John Roberts and son.

Mr A. S. Thompson

Milford Haven

The death occurred of Andrew Snowdon Thompson, of Marble Hall Road, Milford Haven, at Withybush Hospital, after a prolonged illness, on August 27th. He was 59.

Originally from Manchester, he moved to Milford Haven when he was 20. He met his wife-to-be, Yvonne, at the town’s Manchester club and they married at Steynton church in a double wedding with Yvonne’s sister Jean.

Andrew worked for several years at the Dowty seal factory in Thornton but had to retire due to ill health.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, was a keen gardener, entered competitions and recently took up surfing the internet. He was a familiar sight in Milford on his electric scooter.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were Yvonne (wife); Donna and Chris O’Donovan (daughter and son-in-law); Kayleigh O’Donovan (granddaughter); Callum O’Donovan (grandson); Beryl Mantripp (mother-in-law); Sandra and Rick Green (sister and brother-in-law); June and Richard Brierley (sister and brother-in-law); Peter and Elaine Mantripp (brother-in-law and sister-in-law); Jean and Paul Squelch (sister-in-law and brother-in-law); Ray and Barbara (brother and sister-in-law); Stephen and Kerry, Paul and Jayne, Snowdon and Sarah, Jane and Wim, Emma, Matthew and Claire, Hayley and Alan, Julie and Huw (nephews and nieces); John and Ann (cousins).

A large gathering of family, friends and neighbours attended the funeral at Hamilton Court funeral home, followed by interment at Milford Haven cemetery. The service was officiated by Rev Martyn Evans.

Funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mr J. H. Fuller

Hook

The death occurred of John Henry Fuller of West Hook Road, Hook, at Withybush Hospital on August 16th. He was 88.

Originally from Lewes in Sussex and then Bournemouth in Dorset, he moved to Hook 14 years ago.

During his varied working life he spent periods in farming, organic gardening, painting and decorating and later woodcarving and sculpture.

He worked in the catering corps during the war.

His interests included a love of wildlife, walking and exploring the Pembrokeshire country- side, beekeeping, music, mainly classical but particularly the harp. He was also interested in philosophy, reading music and most of all, his family.

He also enjoyed visiting art galleries and his friends in that field.

He excelled in cooking and created his own recipes. He was a keen gardener and enjoyed using natural planting schemes, with wild flowers and water features.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were Mary Fuller (wife); Sarah and Jessica (daughters); Grace (granddaughter); Chris (son-in-law); Michael and Penny Wirz, Pauline and Ivor Glanville, Michelle and Chris Chisholm, Richard and Jenny Glanville.

The funeral service was held at St Jerome’s Church, Llangwm, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn and was officiated by Rev Jane Goupillon.

The bearers were Chris Wallis, Sarah Fuller, Jessica Fuller, David Hills, Ivor Glanville and Gary Roberts.

There were family flowers only. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

Mrs D. A. Cole

Pembroke Dock

The funeral of Dibly Antonio Cole, of High Street, Pembroke Dock, was held on August 29th. She died at her home on August 18th, aged 92.

Originally from Kingston, Jamaica, she worked as a caravan cleaner and a school cleaner at Bush school for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband Stanley Cole. She enjoyed gardening.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were Fred Cole, Arthur Cole, Tom Cole, Austin Cole (sons); Ann Parsley (daughter).

The funeral service was held at Lamphey Church and was officiated by Rev Roger Jones.

The bearers were Robin Thomas (son-in-law); Christian and Jansen Parsley and Joshua Thomas (grandchildren).

Mr C. A. Clark

Saundersfoot

Charles Albert Clark died at Brooklands Nursing Home, Saundersfoot, on September 1st. He was 82.

A native of Milford Haven, he worked for 30 years in the family fish retailing business, Clark Bros retiring in 1990. His previous trade was as a moulder.

His main interests were gardening, playing snooker at the Waterloo Club and watching cricket and horse-racing. He enjoyed all of these until he became ill with senile dementia.

In the past he was a keen participant in Milford carnival, making the float for the Waterloo Club.

He was predeceased by his wife, Valerie, in 2000.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Jonathon and Julie (son and daughter-in-law); Elizabeth and Derek (daughter and son-in-law); Peter, Sarah, James and Steven (grandchildren); Megan, Billy and Jimmy (sisters and brothers) and Irene (sister-in-law).

The funeral service was held at St David’s Church, Hubberston, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium. Rev Peter Jones officiated at the service and the bearers were Mr. O. Mcclennand, Mr. R. Mcclennand, Mr. R. Potter and Mr. M. Stephens.

Donations in lieu to Brooklands Nursing Home and the Alzheimer,s Society c/o Barclays Bank, Milford Haven.
