Mrs P. Price

Manorbier

Patricia Price was born in 1937 in Pontypool, the elder child of Henry and Melville Sproule-Jones, and sister to Mark.

She was educated at St Brandon’s School in Clevedon and Swansea University where she made many friends.

In 1960 Pat married Deryk, a union which would last 20 years. They had three children, Jenny, Clare and Simon. The couple lived in Abergavenny for several years before moving to Haverfordwest in 1969.

In 1984 Pat married David who had two children, Ben and Lucy. Pat was married to David until 1995.

After a brief career as an industrial scientist, Pat worked in education, teaching science at Pembrokeshire College, Haverfordwest, and then at Greenhill School, Tenby, where she taught for 20 years.

Pat was an accomplished musician, and was a performer, producer and director of many concerts throughout west Wales. In her later years she was heavily involved in the Tenby Arts Festival.

Among her efforts for charitable causes was her work on behalf of the Hope MS therapy centre in Neyland.

She married Bruce Price, a former master mariner in 2000 at Manorbier Church. Their romance was ignited during the aftermath of the Sea Empress oil disaster when the pair met while volunteering to tend oil-soaked seabirds.

She was a former chairman of the gardening club, worked for the Church of St James and was a member of the Millennium celebration committee.

She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends.

Pat died on June 18th and leaves to mourn: husband Bruce, brother Mark and his wife Louise, her three children, eight grandchildren and two step-children.

Manorbier Church was filled to overflowing June 25th. The service was led by Rev Graham Davies, and Pat’s brother Mark gave a eulogy.

Bearers were John Bevan, Newman Vincent, Gareth James, Peter Oeppen, Blake Shaw and John Rees, former colleagues from Greenhill School, Tenby. Pat was interred in the church cemetery.

There were family flowers only, with donations for the Hope Centre, Neyland, to the funeral directors, W. and M. J. Rossiter and Sons, The Old Rectory, The Norton, Tenby, SA70 8AB.

Mrs D. Griffiths

Fishguard

The funeral service took place on June 3rd of Dilys Griffiths, of Bryn Elfed, Fishguard, who died on May 26th at Withybush Hospital. Dilys was the beloved wife of the late Ivor.

The service took place at the Chapel of Rest, Feidr Castell, Fishguard, and was followed by interment at Hermon Chapel Cemetery. It was officiated by Rev D. Carl Williams.

Principal mourners were: Suzanne and Gareth Davies (daughter and son -in- law); Gladys Powell (sister); Mair Davies (sister-in-law); Mr and Mrs A. Powell, Mr and Mrs R. Stracey, Ceri Powell, Graham Davies, Colin Davies (nephews and nieces); Dorothy Davies, Eirlys Morris, family friend. Also present were Mrs and Miss Stretch, Mr and Mrs N. Davies, Dewi Harries, Mr and Mrs B. Harries, Ernest Harries, Heulwen Thomas (cousins).

There were also representatives from Hermon Chapel and Parc Y Llyn Nursing Home and many other friends.

Unable to attend were Marc Powell, Richard and Tammy, Catherine and Sean Ongers.

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for the Fishguard and district Stroke Club to Paul Jenkins and Sons, Feidr Castell, Fishguard, SA65 9BB, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mr W. H. Lewis

Wolfscastle

The funeral service took place on June 11th of William Lewis, Ford Bungalow, Wolfscastle who died on June 5th at Withybush Hospital.

Born and bred in Little Newcastle, William’s high standard of work as a carpenter and funeral director was well known throughout the area.

Moving to Ford Bungalow, Wolfscastle, following his marriage to Zena Morgan in 1960, the couple celebrated their golden wedding earlier this year.

William was a faithful member of Beulah Chapel, Little Newcastle, serving as treasurer and secretary for a number of years.

A keen sports fan, he took particular interest in football and cricket, from international to local level.

William retired as a funeral director last year, aged 80, having served his community for more than 50 years.

The large gathering present at Parc Gwyn Crematorium was an indication of the respect that people had for William.

The service was officiated by Rev Geoffrey Eynon who was assisted by Revs Michael Rowlands, Bryon Jones, D. Carl Williams, Aled Jenkins, Dr. Cerwyn Davies and Paul Davies. A tribute was read on behalf of William’s godson Nicholas Neumann.

The bearers were Billy Thomas, Peter Davies, Rhydian Eynon and Alwyn George (friends).

Principal mourners are: Zena (wife); Nan and Phillip (sister and brother-in-law); Kyra (sister-in-law); Rachel, Janet and Grace (cousins); Maria, Angela and Richard, Jennifer (nieces) together with other relatives, friends and neighbours too numerous to mention. Unable to attend were Rachel and Zander (niece and nephew, USA); Roland (nephew, China) and Nicholas Neumann (godson, China).

There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu for the ward ten trust fund and chemotherapy day unit at Withybush Hospital being received by Rev Geoffrey Eynon, Y Mans, Wolfscastle, SA62 5NB.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Paul Jenkins and Sons, Fishguard.

Mrs M. J. Taylor

Milford Haven

There was a large gathering at the funeral service at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on June 25th of Margaret Josephine Taylor. She died at her home on June 18th aged 82.

A native of Milford Haven, she worked for many years at the Grammar School as the school secretary. A former member of Milford Haven golf club, where she met her late husband Bill, Margaret was ladies captain three times and ladies president in 1967.

Her only daughter Karen predeceased her in 2007.

She played a big part in the lives of her grandsons Jack and James. She also enjoyed an active social life with her close friends. Margaret was a loving mother and mother-in-law, proud grandmother and a true friend to many.

Ven Graham Davies, former vicar of Steynton, officiated at the funeral service.

The principal mourners are: Neville Davies (son-in-law); Jack and James Davies (grandsons) together with cousins and many friends too numerous to mention.

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for the Paul Sartori Foundation, 31 Haven Road, Haverfordwest.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mrs A. P. Davies

Milford Haven

The death occurred on June 17th of Avril Pearl Davies, of Steynton Road, Milford Haven, at Withybush Hospital. She was 91.

Born in Aberdare, she moved to Midcounty Farm, Slebech. She attended Wiston School and worked in Haverfordwest until her marriage to John Davies, who was a well-known fish merchant in Milford Haven. She lived all her married life in Milford Haven.

She enjoyed sewing and knitting, and up to two weeks before she died she was knitting for charity. Her main interest was her family to whom she was devoted. She enjoyed frequent visits from friends and neighbours. She was also interested in sport, especially cricket and rugby.

Avril was predeceased by her husband John Evan Trevor Davies.

The family left to mourn are: Carolyn and Julie (daughters); Laura and Danny (granddaughter and husband); Paul and Tara (grandson and wife); Imogen, Joseph, Lucas and Ruby (great grandchildren); Hilliard and Brian (sons-in-law); Peggy (cousin); Roger and Mel, Bob and Marlene, David, Bryan (nephews and wives); Alison and Nigel, Jayne and Len.

The service led by Rev Paul Bartlett was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, and the ashes were interred at Milford Haven Cemetery.

Bearers were Paul (grandson); Danny (granddaughter’s husband); Bob (neighbour and friend); and Alan (family friend).

Donations in lieu of flowers for Wales Air Ambulance, may be sent to Shane Morgan, Tom Newing and Sons, Hamilton Court funeral home, Dartmouth Street, Milford Haven, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mr L. Wheeler

Efailwen

THE death of Lloyd Wheeler, of Hafodwen, Efailwen, occurred on June 2nd, after a prolonged illness. He was 91.

His wife Dilys, brother Ben and sisters Essie, Getta and Mildred had all predeceased him.

He had been cared for by his daughter Carol and latterly by a team of carers.

Lloyd was the youngest son of John and Anne Wheeler of Clyngwyn Farm. After his marriage to Dilys Adams, of Cliau-Uchaf Farm, they set up home at Soar, Efailwen, to make a living from dairy farming.

Lloyd was a popular member of the farming community and also helped during the war by agricultural contracting to grow food. He also took an active part in sporting events and enjoyed fishing on the eastern Cleddau which flowed through their land.

In later life he had been employed as a part-time bus driver with Jones of Login on the school buses. He had been an active member of Nebo Congregational Chapel, although he was unable to attend regularly in recent years.

The funeral took place at his chapel on June 8th. A private service at his home was followed by a public service at Nebo which was officiated by Rev Emyr Wyn Thomas. Mr J. S. Davies was at the organ.

Chief mourners were: Mr and Mrs Michael Griffiths (daughter and son-in-law); Leighton Griffiths (grandson); Mr and Mrs Marsden Williams, Ann Price, Gerwyn Griffiths, Lloyd Williams, Mr and Mrs Peter Williams, Martin Williams, Mr and Mrs Howell James, Marion Griffiths, Sian Mathias and Emma James, Rhys Adams, Iris Adams, Mr and Mrs Islwyn Phillips, Mr and Mrs John Wheeler, Malcolm Adams, Cynthia Morgan, Pamela Morgan, Mr and Mrs Byron Edwards, Helen Williams, Mr and Mrs Jeff Wheeler, Julie Davies, Aled Adams and Helen Barrack and others too numerous to mention. The group of carers was represented by Ann and Mandy.

Unable to attend were Martha Griffiths, Susan Williams, Jean Williams and Roy Adams.

The bearers were Dewi Davies, Wyn Davies, Brian Evans and David Luke and leaflets were distributed by Ben Morris and Raymond Luke.

Donations are being received by Dennis Jones, funeral director, for Nebo burial ground maintenance fund.

Miss D. L. Rowe

Pembroke Dock

The death has occurred of Debrah Louise Rowe (Debbie) of Elizabeth Court, Pembroke Dock, on May 26th. She was 50.

She was a student nurse, a carer at Pater Close, an office worker at the grammar school, and she did lots of volunteering roles with PAVS, the Tanyard Project and the Stroke Association.

Her interests included cooking and baking, some gardening and an interest in birds, animals and music.

Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Katy Rowe and Lucy Brazier (daughters); Cyril Butcher (step-father); Michael Rowe (brother); Julie Rose (sister-in-law); Tiana Brazier, Tristan Brazier, Daniel Coates and Georgie Coates (grandchildren); Hollie Rowe, Ceri Rowe and Rosie Rowe (nieces); Darren Coats and Lee Brazier (sons-in-law); Carl Clegg (partner); Eileen Canton (partners mother).

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium and was officiated by Rev Martin Cox.

Donations in lieu of flowers for the Stroke Association may be sent to Graham Thomas, 34 Charles Thomas Avenue, Pembroke Dock, SA72 6UR.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E. C. Thomas and Sons, Pembroke Dock.

Mrs D. M. A. Norris

Keeston

The death occurred of Diane Margaret Amelia Norris, of West Lane Close, Keeston, on June 23rd. She was 80.

Originally from London she was a student nurse, SRN, a theatre nurse and qualified teacher for three years. She retired in 1985.

Her interests included the WI, scrabble, beekeeping, spinning and weaving, gardening and camping. She also loved singing in church.

Family left to mourn and principal mourners were: Derrek (husband of 60 years); Tricia and John (daughter and son-in-law); Bette (sister); Ron and Clive (brothers); Louise, Emma, James, Joe, Johnathan, Melissa, Hannah, Ian, Paul, Sue, Gemma (grandchildren); Keiran, Daniel, Jake, Rhiannon, Sean, Ellie, Ryan, Jasmine, Corey (great grandchildren); Maggie (family friend).

The service was held at St Mary’s Church, Roch, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, and was officiated by Rev Michael Rowlands. The bearers were James and Johnathan Bartlett, Ian Francis and Paul Boswell.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Sons, Haverfordwest.
