Champions banned for three years

WEST Wales Intermediate Cup champions Johnston have been banned from the competition for the next three years.

The club were under investigation from the West Wales Football Association after it emerged they played the suspended Luke Hayward under the name of Sion Price in their 4-1 win at St Josephs in round three.

Glenn Murray, who assisted the side alongside brother and manager Russell, confirmed the penalty to Telegraph Sport, and added the club have also received a £200 fine.

Both Glenn and Russell meanwhile, will be suspended from 'involvement in football' (coaching, managing, or taking committee roles) for 12 months. A decision is yet to be confirmed on whether midfielder Hayward will face further penalty.

The club have the right to appeal, but Telegraph Sport understands they have accepted the decision.

St Josephs will now take the Tigers' place in the draw for the last 16.
