A BIG points win by Matthew Holder saw Hook Sports Club through to victory in the DT Pearce Cup snooker final last Monday at the Balfour Club.
Playing in the second frame of singles, Matthew turned on the style to beat an out-of-touch Brian (WMB) Morgan by a massive 54 points.
But Hook did not have it all their own way as Brian (BE) Griffiths (Neyland B) got his team off to a good start in the first singles frame, gaining a decent 19-point win over Tim John.
The first frame of doubles saw two of the oldest members of the league take on two of the youngest. Glyndwr Lewis (aged 83) and Bryn Fatham (a spritely 86) playing for Neyland, were in control of the frame right until the end with Glyndwr in particular potting some nice balls. But Jon Davies potted the blue, pink and black to see him and his partner Mark James sneak a three-point win.
After the Holder frame, the last frame of doubles saw Chris Walters and David James try to chase down a 36-point lead, but experienced Hook pair of Richard James and Steve John guided Hook to victory.
