HAVERFORDWEST RFC Ladies player Joanna Price is on course to become a dual senior international after being selected for the Wales Woman’s rugby union squad.
Joanna, a former football goalkeeper with both Arsenal and Wales, only started playing rugby last October, but after excelling at Haverfordwest, has represented the Scarlets and was invited to the WRU’s ‘talent id day’ at the National Centre of Excellence in Cardiff last month.
The 29-year-old outside half impressed the selectors, and will now have the opportunity to gain Welsh selection for a 7s tournament in Dubai in December, and next year’s Six Nations Championship.
“I’m absolutely delighted to be called into the national squad but also shocked,” said Joanna, who lives in St Davids and is a former pupil at Ysgol Dewi Sant.
“When I joined Haverfordwest Ladies RFC last October I never thought the national squad was an option - but thanks to Gareth Charles and Ben John’s coaching, I’ve been given a chance.”
“The opportunity to say I’ve represented Wales in two sports is precious and one that I’m truly grateful for.
“My Dad was a patriotic Welsh rugby fan so he would have been proud to say the least.”
