Goodwick United 4
Neyland 1
GOODWICK United mastered the difficult conditions to run out convincing winners against Neyland at Phoenix Park.
The hosts lost 2-0 in an earlier fixture against the Nomads, but there was never going to be a repeat of that result as as Nigel Delaney’s Goodwick troops built-up a three-goal cushion at half time.
Steffan Hayes headed home the opener on the 20 minute mark, a delightful direct free kick on the edge of the area by Rob Morgans doubled the lead, Wayne O’Sullivan added the third with a textbook header at the far post from a corner.
After the break the hosts added a fourth, substitute Stephen Evans latched onto Jonny Horgan’s cross.
The Nomads scored a late consolation effort, the best goal of the game; defender Scott Jones struck a 30-yard screamer that flew in the top corner past James Gwilt.
