Pembroke County Cricket Club previews for Division One on Saturday, May 5:

Division One:
Burton v Neyland

After their opening day hammering from Haverfordwest, Burton bounced back well on Saturday with that 95-run win in Kilgetty.

That result suggests they can compete well back in Division One this season, and it was Morgan Slate who starred in the win with 51 and 5-14, while Steve Jones took 4-9.

But they have a stern test here against a Neyland team off to a flier.

Sean Hannon's side failed to challenge for the title last season, but the early going suggests they will be up there this year after comfortable wins over Tish and Llangwm.

In both games, they gave solid all round displays with a number of players chipping in, and Burton will have to be at their best here.

Cresselly v Johnston

Johnston's only game so far was at Whitland on the first Sunday where they picked up six points, but since then they have lost Lee Summons to Haverfordwest, withdrawn their second XI, and had a game rained off.

They are seemingly struggling for players for their firsts as well so face a tall order tomorrow against Cresselly, who ironically will field Dan Sutton - so instrumental in Johnston's unlikely survival in the past two seasons.

Cresselly themselves started with a win over Llangwm before edging a thrilling draw with Haverfordwest last Saturday, and will start clear favourites here.

Haverfordwest v Lawrenny

Speaking of that draw at The Racecourse, it took 91 from the ever reliable Simon Holliday to get The Town close.

That was after his century at Burton on the opening day, and there is nothing to suggest the prolific run getter will slow down this season.

But Danny Potter will know his side can ill-afford to drop too many points early on, and face a tricky test here against a Lawrenny side who beat Whitland on the weekend in their only game so far.

James Phillips hit 59 and Rob Williams took 3-20 as they sneaked home by three wickets - and it was vital they got off the mark after being rained off at Kilgetty the week before.

Brad McDermott-Jenkins also hit 33, and The Town will know if he gets going, then the visitors can cause an upset.

Llangwm v Whitland

After promotion last season, Llangwm already find themselves under pressure after defeats to Cresselly and Neyland.

But they were two of the harder games they will play all summer, and will see tomorrow as their chance to get the ball rolling.

They did bowl Neyland out for 152 last week as Ollie Davies and Phil Llewellyn both took three wickets, but must produce a stronger batting display to overcome a Whitland side who have had a mixed start.

They did take 27 points from their reduced-overs match with Johnston before that narrow loss to Lawrenny, but how much Whitland RFC's vital rugby game with Fishguard tomorrow affects Iestyn Scoufield's selection may be pivotal.

St Ishmaels v Kilgetty

Both these have only played once, and lost once.

So this is important to both with neither side wanting to be adrift from those above them early on.

Tish laboured to 100 all out against Neyland and then failed to take any wickets, while Kilgetty were shot out for 51 against Burton.

Those kind of displays can be excused early doors with pitches damp and availability of players limited - but both must produce better tomorrow.
