Pembroke County Cricket Club Division One: Haverfordwest (155-3) v Llangwm (197 all out)

HAVERFORDWEST began the day top of the league - but ended it in third place after rain forced their game to be abandoned when Danny Potter’s men seemed odds on for a 30 point win.

Chasing 198 after Joseph Kiff had hit a brilliant century for Llangwm, The Town were well placed on 155-3 when the players were forced off again after a rain affected day, and this time they never got back on.

With Cresselly and Neyland managing to win their games, it all means The Town are now 16 points off The Doves heading into Saturday, and 10 off Neyland who they play at The Athletic Club.

Potter had earlier opted to field after winning the toss and the visitors were soon struggling on 46-3, Adam James clean bowling Noah Davies (0) and Luke Brock (9), with Matthew Kiff (4) going the same way to Jonny White in-between.

But then Jo Kiff turned the tide, aking advantage of being dropped to share a stand of 99 with Ollie Davies before the captain holed out to Ben Field off Kieran O’Connor for 42 (four fours).

The last six batsman made just 11 between them as James returned to record figures of 5-55 - with Kiff left unbeaten on 119 from 108 balls, cracking 15 fours and a six to take his side to 197 all out - no mean total in difficult conditions.

And the away side got off to the perfect start with the ball as Noah Davies had Simon Holliday caught by David lewis for 4.

But with the weather in mind, Huw Scriven and Field were never going to hang around and they raced to 52-3 before Scriven was bowled by Luke Brock, having hit 38 off 30 balls (four fours).

No 4 James continued the charge with 48 off 22 balls (three fours and four sixes) before another big hit of Davies landed in the hands of Matthew Kiff.

Field moved to 41 not out and Lee Summons was with him on 17 not out when the misty rain worsened - leaving The Town frustrated on 155-3 in just 20.1 overs.

They can still capture the title but will need to win at Neyland, and will then be relying on Lawrenny to do them a favour against Cresselly.
