Pembrokeshire short mat bowlers who represented Wales did tremendously at the annual British Isles championships, held at Llandrindod Wells recently.
Every year, players from the county have performed well for their country on the international arena.
The nine local bowlers who took part were Neil Crawford, Gareth Davies, Martyn Davies, Jon Gladstone, Andrew Hudson and Paul Hudson (Hook), Mark Thorpe (Freystrop), Andrew Evans (Tavernspite) and Robert Hughes (Penally).
There were two stages to the competition.
Firstly, the individual championships, which consisted of teams of singles, pairs, threes and fours. And secondly, the team championships consisting of four teams of fours. Wales won the fours in the individual championships with a team consisting of Neil Crawford, Jon Gladstone and Robert Hughes from Pembrokeshire and Nigel Thomas from Llanboidy, Carmarthenshire. Andrew Evans finished runners-up in the singles and a team from Swansea placed runners-up in the triples. Wales finished third overall in the team championships. It was an excellent weekend of bowling with Pembrokeshire players excelling.
