Goodwick United 7
Fishguard Sports 0

Goodwick United eased into the third round of the Senior Cup at the expense of neighbours Fishguard Sports as Danny Williams led the way with a good hat-trick.

The home side were 3-0 up at the interval, and might have had at least double that tall. But they were always in control and added another four goals afterwards, despite the fact that the Sports never gave up trying and deserve credit for sticking to their task right up until the final minute.

Fishguard made a bright start as Ben Franklin battled hard up front and Robbie Jenkins looked strong but Goodwick went ahead with a cracking goal from Ryan Thomas, after Jay Brockway set up the goal.

Thomas really buzzed in midfield alongside Tom Jones and Johnny Horgan and although Sports’ keeper Gary Hall made a couple of good saves he was unable to hold on to a Danny Williams’ drive and Brockway followed up to toe-poke the ball home.

Brockway, Bowen, Williams and Thomas all missed with other chances but Williams made it 3-0 at the break, after Tom Jones had a shot cleared off the line and Brockway put another shot over the bar.

Williams added his second goal after the oranges, when he pulled down a Bowen cross and placed the ball into the far corner — and Williams added his third after Hall had done well to parry a Bowen drive but couldn’t hold onto the ball.

Nigel Delaney added the sixth from the penalty spot and Kieran O’Brien netted the seventh goal in a goalmouth scramble — and Goodwick moved into the last eight of the competition as reward for their dominance.
