Brock boys too hot for Town

Haverfordwest 2nds (90 all out) lost to Llangwm (218 all out)
Llangwm proved too strong for Haverfordwest seconds at a sun-soaked Racecourse.

Llangwm scored 218 all out before reducing Haverford-west 2nds to 100 all out.

The Brock boys all made a contribution to their success as Luke topped the batting and had one wicket alongside Richard and Andrew, who between them claimed five wickets.

Llangwm made a pedestrian start against tight Haverfordwest bowling as they stood at only 21 for two wickets in ten overs but then Luke Brock took charge of proceedings as he struck 15 fours and two sixes en route to a best-ever score of 94. A century seemed assured but he played a loose shot to a good ball from Josh Wilment and was caught at mid wicket by Idris Davies Llangwm skipper Chris Inward (28) and Chris Thomas (21) were the supporting Llangwm batsman against Wilment (3 for 30) and Nigel Delaney (3 for 36) with Davies (2 for 56) and Simon Williams (2 for 61) also claiming wickets but taking some ‘stick’ in the process as Llangwm finished on a healthy 218 all out in 42 overs.

Haverfordwest’s innings was soon in tatters as Llangwm skipper Chris Inward picked up 3 for 4 as he raced in from the top end, with Richard Brock claiming 3 for 16 as The Town 2nds collapsed to 21 for 5 before Mikey Jones (27) gave a little credibility to the scoreline (27), alongside Simon Williams (11) and Mike Hooper (11 not out).

Andrew Brock (2 for 32), Luke Brock (1 for 14) and Andrew Harries (1 for 9) made sure that there was no way back for the home side so that Llangwm claimed a maximum 30 points – and a clear top spot in the table.


Johnston cruise to victory
Pembroke (100 all out) lost to Johnston (182 all out)
Johnston gained a comfortable victory at Treleet over Pembroke, who are still looking for their first win.

Ian Phillips (44), Lee Walters (22) and Steve Jenkins (23 not out) led the Johnston batting, with other contributions from Gary James (17), Lee Summons (13), Steve Mills (14) and John Summons (12). Sean Powell (3 for 45), Gwyn Griffiths (3 for 40) and Dan Williams (2 for 34) were the successful bowlers for Pembroke.

But then Pembroke collapsed to 47 for 7 against Steve Mills (3 for 9) and Gary James (3 for 25) as only opener Paul White scored 26 runs before departing. Perry Phillips (30 not out) and Gwyn Griffiths (18) staged a mini-comeback but Lee Summons claimed 1 for 23 and there were three run outs which didn’t help the home cause as Johnston secured maximum points and moved up the table as their reward.


Llanrhian get better of draw

Burton (177 for 9) drew with Llanrhian (241 for 4)

Llanrhian got the better of the draw against Burton at Oatfield Park.

Llanrhian elected to bat first and their opening pair of Geraint Morris and Ben Jones put on 50 by the seventh over and added another 40 before Jones was out for a hard-hitting 37.

Morris, who had top scored with 80 the previous week, stroked ten fours and two sixes as he mover sweetly to 88 but then was well caught by Luke Hayman off Johnny Scale.

Ben Jones hit 50 (six fours) and Matthew Bennett showed how he has developed into a useful all-rounder with four fours and two sixes in his speedy 46 not out that took Llanrhian to a huge 241 for 4.

Steve Jones (2 for 42), Johnny Scale (1 for 44) and Morgan Scale (1 for 60) were the only Burton wicket-takers.

Richard Hayman (30) and Neville Davies (31) helped Burton to a steady start but good spells by Luke Jones (3 for 44) and Gary Reynolds (3 for 24) made sure that they were never up with the run rate, with Anthony Couzens (1 for 23) and Geraint Morris also chipping in with wickets.

It looked as if Llanrhian would win but they were denied as a result of a last-wicket stand by 13-year-old Toby Hayman, who showed his potential with 22 not out, supported by skipper Johnny Scale (4 not out) Burton claimed the draw and an extra bonus point.


Murphy’s law

Cresselly 2nds (197 all out) drew with Hook (151 for 8)

Jack Murphy scored a splendid innings of 96 to earn Cresselly seconds the better of the draw with Hook.

Murphy stroked 17 boundaries but just when three figures looked imminent he was caught off the bowling of Matthew Holder. Huw Evans (31) and Scott Arthur (18) were the main support as Chris Holder again proved to be the spear-head of the Hook attack with 5 for 47, assisted by brother Matthew (2 for 20) and Jamie Phelps (2 for 50).

Huw Evans completed a good all-round performance with 3 for 25 as Hook gave chase through Tom Blaxland (37) and Phelps (18) but tight spells from Sam Harts (2 for 31), Richard Arthur (1 for 31), Matthew Lewis (1 for 17) and Tom Arthur (1 for 21) saw Hook fall short of victory, but gaining a draw as William Goronwy contributed 27 not out late on.


Carew knock on Wood

Carew 2nds (176 for 3) beat Whitland 2nds (171 for 8)

SIMON Wood starred for Carew seconds with an excellent knock of 84 against Whitland seconds.

This was an entertaining tussle which produced almost 350 runs as batsmen were on top for much of the match.

Wood had 11 fours and a six in his unbeaten innings but this was an all-round team performance as James Hinchliffe supported with 44, before he was caught by Aled Evans off the bowling of Owain Edwards, and 23 from Christian Phillips.

Nico Setaro top-scored for Whitland with 52 not out (six fours), alongside Owain Edwards (42) and Wayne Johns (28), while Tom Davies was the pick of the Carew bowling with 4 for 32. Ollie Cole (1 for 29), Martin Scourfield (1 for 36) and Wood (1 for 31) were also amongst the wickets as Whitland finished their overs on a very respectable 171 for 8.

Edwards (1 for 25), Steve Vale (1 for 49) and Sean James (1 for 20) took wickets for Whitland but Carew had a real match-winner in Wood and they stay second in the table as reward for maintaining their unbeaten record.
