GOODWICK United can count their lucky stars that they got through this epic cup-tie by the skin of their teeth against first division rivals Clarbeston Road.

The scores were level at three goals apiece after 90 minutes. In the extra-time period it stayed square at four-all, but Goodwick held their nerve to win a dramatic penalty shoot-out 6-5, as Steve Blackford buried the all-important winning penalty.

Ryan Thomas header and a Rob Morgan belter gave the visitors a two-goal cushion at the break. Goodwick skipper Wayne O’Sullivan was sent off after receiving a second caution. The Road grew in confidence by having an extra man. Richard Green pulled a goal back, but Steve Lewis replied for the visitors with a cracking header, but back came the Road with goals by Rhydian Wyn and Terry Fitzgerald to force the tie into extra time. The Road took the lead as Greg Brown made no mistake from the spot, but the visitors equalised with Lee Burrows slotting past Lee Scott. Then it was down to the dreaded spot kicks that cruelly denied the Road their moment of cup glory.
