Haverfordwest (192 all out) v Whitland (171 for 5) – Match abandoned

Whitland could consider themselves unlucky not to pick up a win at The Racecourse as they were just 22 runs short of passing Haverfordwest’s 192 all out before the rain halted their march to victory.

At that stage Whitland were on 171 for 5 and still had almost eight overs left after Ed John had batted superbly to reach 77, with 11 fours and two big sixes to his credit, aided by Paul Davies (32) and Raff Williams (21).

Haverfordwest’s total owed a great deal to the powerhouse batting of Adam James, who followed his big hits the night before that destroyed Cresselly in the Harrison-Allen Bowl with another 55 here from only 28 deliveries as he struck eight fours and two sixes.

Danny Potter (32), Nigel Delaney (15) and Dan Field (36) were the other top scorers against the bowling of Matthew Davies (2 for 47), Dan James (4 for 26) and Dai Dearden (3 for 29).

A score of 193 to win seemed a big challenge to Whitland but with Ed John in control they were always in with a real chance, despite useful bowling by Clive Tucker (2 for 48) and Nigel Morgan (2 for v31) – but the weather was the ultimate winner as rain swept in.
