Narberth (214 for 7) drew with Carew (133 for 5)

NARBERTH claimed the lion’s share of the points in a draw with champions Carew.

Narberth’s excellent start to the season continued as they dominated their match against champions Carew that they pouched all the draw points despite being unable to overcome stout resistance from veteran skipper Robbie Hicks and talented youngster James Hinchliffe after Carew had lurched to 55 for 5.

Marc Hughes had five fours in his 47 and Ritchie Adams five fours and two sixes in his 43 as the Narberth pair shared an opening stand of 72, with other supporting cameos from Kyle Quartermaine (26), Mike Scale (35) and Dan Hughes (28).

TomDavies (4 for 55) and Rhys Davies (2 for 47) took the wickets for Carew but after tea their early batting struggled against Ian Hughes (2 for 23 in 12 overs), Ben Quartermaine (1 for 25) and Ollie Cook (1 for 15).

But then Robbie Hicks played the skipper’s role for Carew as he struck six boundaries in his 49 not out and Hinchliffe gave excellent support with his undefeated 31 as the pair added 78 without further loss to make sure of the draw.
