Bend It Like Beckham director carries the Olympic flame in Burnley

BURNLEY'S first torch bearer today was movie director Gurinder Chadha OBE.

The 52-year-old directed Bend It Like Beckham in 2002.

The British director of Indian origin is best known for the hit films Bhaji on the Beach (1993), Bride and Prejudice (2004), Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging (2008) and It's a Wonderful Afterlife (2010).

She carried the torch from 11.10am in Burnley's Accrington Road.
