Pembroke County Cricket Club League Division Two:

Carew (115 for 3) beat Stackpole (112 all out) by 7 wickets

Carew made it four wins in as many matches to sit 24 points atop the section table as they dismissed Stackpole for 112 in the 36th over and then took only 28 overs to reach their target for the loss of only three wickets.
Stackpole’s main run-getters were Rob Mathias (62 not out) and Lewys Gibby (23) but Max Brindley (3 for 23), Shaun Whitfield (3 for 18), Tom Davies (1 for 18), Jacob Knox (2 for 29) and Ceri Brace (1 for 19) kept pegging them back as Mathias battled bravely away at the other end.

Nick Scourfield looked in good form for Carew with 49 not out alongside Nick Davies (16) and Brindley (19) before Tom Scourfield (17 not out) joined his namesake Nick in taking Carew to a deserved win as Richard Mackay claimed 2 for 27 and Gibby (1 for 22) in the Stackpole camp.

Hook (102 for 5) beat Saundersfoot (101 all out) by 5 wickets

Hook moved into second place in the table after beating Saundersfoot by five wickets after a solid all-round team performance which saw the visitors lose for the first time.

Good bowling by Jonathan Willington (4 for 24) and Dave Hopkins (4 for 12) meant that Stackpole were restricted to 101 all out in the penultimate over as there was also a wicket each for George James and Brennan Martin as only Steve Cook (22) and John Mansbridge (22 not out) made any impact with the bat for The Seasiders.

Jamie Phelps (39 not out) used his experience to good effect as he led the Hook batting alongside useful cameos from Jacob Lay (27), George James (18) and Bradley Flood (16) so that they were home and dry in only 22 overs.

Haverfordwest 2nds (107 all out) lost to Narberth (110 for 4) by 6 wickets

Narberth stay in contention at the top of the table after a comfortable win on The Racecourse against Haverfordwest Seconds, where Loui Davies caught the eye with a superb spell of bowling and his brother Kyle Quartermaine top scored with 48 runs.

Davies ended up with 5 for 21 as he made The Town batsman play and miss on a regular basis as Rhodri Dyer (2 for 13) and Lewis Hough (2 for 31) showed what youthful talent Narberth have so that only Town skipper Nigel Morgan (35) and Josh Hicks (25) ever stayed long.

Then Narberth had that powerful innings by Kyle Quartermaine and brother Ben became the third member of the family to feature with 12 not out after Hough (14) had also looked good and skipper Jordan Howell chipped in with an unbeaten 18 as Lewis Rhead, Clive Tucker, Sanjaya Gurang and Simon Williams all claimed a wicket each for Haverfordwest

Cresselly 2nds (192 for 7) tied with Llechryd (192 for 7)

There was a dramatic finish at Cresselly as the club’s second string battled to a dramatic tie against Llechryd as the visitors needed just a single off the last ball but veteran fast bowler Steffan Jenkins kept his cool and a run out ensued which saw the spoils well and truly shared!

Jenkins had played an integral role because when he came in to bat at No 7 his team stood at 47 for 5 but a cracking 72 not out helped them to their big total, with help from Matthew Lewis (33) and Nick Jones (35) against the bowling of Peter Betterley (3 for 25), Nick North (1 for 14), John Curran (1 for 38) and Graham Keen (1 for 14).

After tea John Curran again showed what an asset he is with Llechryd’s top score of 72 not out alongside Dewi Davies (51) against Jenkins (2 for 22), Matthew Webb (1 for 18), Matthew Lewis (1 for 28) and Morgan Lewis (1 for 32).

It looked as if Cresselly had thrown the game away as a mix up on the penultimate delivery gifted the visitors two runs – but Llechryd were unable to capitalise and the game ended all-square!

Pembroke (142 for 5) beat Whitland 2nds (70 all out) by 72 runs

Excellent performances by Paul White (bat) and Jonathan Rogers (ball) earned Pembroke a first win under the leadership of new skipper Jack Harries as they built a decent total of 142 for 5 and shot out Whitland seconds for a paltry 72 runs.

Andrew Hay made a welcome return with 36 alongside brother Phil (26) and the indomitable Barry Evans (30) before ‘Chalkie’ White’s undefeated 43 gave them something to bowl at despite the efforts of Dai Lee (2 for 33), Wayne Howells 91 for 24), James Thomas (1 for 7) and Stuart Harries (1 for 44) in the Whitland cause.

Then Jonathan Rogers steamed in with 5 for 30 in his 12 overs and Evans claimed (2 for 11) and Sam Davies (2 for 8) to give their side a very welcome 28 points and a rapid climb to sixth place in the table.
