Ludchurch Women's Institute The May meeting was held at Tavernspite village hall, where President Bea Jones welcomed everyone and introduced the speaker for the evening, Mrs Elizabeth Hardcastle of Pembroke. Mrs Hardcastle, an expert cook, entitled her talk and demonstration, 'take four eggs', and proceeded to show how she would make a meringue roulade with of course 'four egg whites'. There had been some previous preparation, but very soon there was a delicious roulade for all to see. Member, Mary Hodgeon proved a most able helper in the proceedings and the roulade was shared out for everyone to taste. Mrs Hardcastle had attended cookery courses at the famous Ballymaloe Cookery school, in County Cork, Ireland and spoke very warmly of her experiences and of Irish cookery in general.

The 55 Plus Swimming Club The 55 Plus Swimming Club held its Awards lunch in April at the Wiseman's Bridge Inn. The chairman, Wyn Rees welcomed everyone and following grace given by Denzil Davies, members settled down to an excellent lunch in the Inn's pleasant dining room with its splendid view over the Saundersfoot Bay.

Lawrenny and Martletwy WI Members discussed various items in the May newsletter including ways to raise money for the repairs to WI House.

Llanddewi Velfrey WI The February meeting began with the reading of the minutes and the county letter, the members who had attended the social afternoon in WI house had really enjoyed it, the Mini Consultative had proved very interesting. Names were taken of those wishing to take part in the quiz in Summerhill, five members will be attending the International Womens Day talk in Crundale hall on March 9th and names were taken for the federation spring walk, Nancy Eynon and Ann Bland will go to the Dugleddy Group committee meeting in Llawhaden on February 9th. It was decided to set up a savings club to pay for subscriptions etc. Carl Watts was congratulated on being invited to attend a literary lunch at Denman College. The speaker for the afternoon was Sophie Thomas, Matron of the Paul Sartori Foundation who gave a most interesting insight into the work of the foundation, she was warmly thanked by Ann Bland, members were also please to welcome Joan Mathias a trustee of the foundation. The competition was won by Kathleen Rees and the raffle by Carol Watt refreshment were served by Margaret Blacklock. The next meeting on March 4th at 2pm in the village hall will contain a talk on travelling in Iran by Dr Rees, new members most welcome.

Llandewi Velfrey WI In the chair at the January meeting was Ann Bland, President, the minutes were read by secretary Deanna Lewis, the county letter was discussed, members will be attending the mini consultative meeting in Haverfordwest, one of the swap shops in Saundersfoot, the games social afternoon in WI House and hopefully securing a place on the digital photography course, names were put forward to make teams for the quiz night in Summerhill. There are two welsh speaking members in the institute who will be forwarding ideas for future events to EI House. Some members hope to go to the MFWI Wales Conference in Llandudno. Information had been obtained from the national assembly regarding the consultation papers entitled 'Safeguarding Adults and Talk to Me, Maxine Nixon was dealing with this. It was noted that Llanddewi WI's 90th Anniversary will be in 2010.

LLanddewi Velfrey WI At the beginning of the December meeting members observed a minutes silence in memory of Sadie Morgan, Sadie had been an active member of the institute for many years and will be greatly missed. The minutes and county letter were read, orders were taken for the 2009 county letter, three members will be attending the Swap Shop in Saundersfoot on January 21st, Maxine Nixon will obtain information on the National Lottery Awards for All, some members will be arranging a beach clean in the New Year, secretary Deanna Lewis will obtain further information regarding the Community Health Councils research on Safeguarding Adults and Talk to Me projects. Some ladies will be attending the Mini Consultative meeting on January 12th and 2 readers were chosen for the forthcoming Dungleddy Carol Service, members were delighted to welcome Jill Hall to the meeting. Final arrangements were made for the Christmas lunch. Llanddewi had been awarded a third place recruitment award for smaller institutes at the recent Annual Council Meeting. The Treasurer distributed copies of the 2007/08 financial statement. The speaker for the afternoon was Ozi Osmond who gave an extremely interesting talk on his time spent in the Holy Land and other very interesting religious facts, he was warmly thanked by Marion Capes, the competition was won by Jean Rowlands and the raffle by Deanna Lewis, refreshments were served by Carol Watts. The next meeting on Wednesday January 7th at 2pm in the village hall will contain a talk on gardening by Mair Evans, new members will be made most welcome.

Competition for the Best Christmas Display Whitland Town Council are once again running the Best Decorated Shop Window and Best Decorated House for Christmas 2008. The response over the past few years has been tremendous and we look forward to receiving the same response again. Could anyone interested in entering their home into this competition please telephone the clerk, Mrs Jenny Davies-Scourfield on 01994 241079, to register their entry by Friday December 12th. Judging will take place over the following weekend.

Whitland Town Council Father Christmas Night Whitland Town Council are holding a Father Christmas Night on Friday December 5th on Grosvenor Sqaure for children of primary school age and under. There will be carol singing at 6pm and Father Christmas will arrive at 6.15pm. The Whitland Town Council Christmas raffle draw will take place at 6.30pm.
